1. 1883
1883 is one of the spin-offs to the famous drama series Yellowstone (2018- ) which is centered around the Dutton family. 1883 takes place 185 years before the events of Yellowstone and follows the story of James Dutton, the great-great-grandfather of John Dutton of Yellowstone, and his wife Margaret Dutton. James Dutton is played by Tim McGraw and Margaret is played by Faith Hill. The story is about their migration from Tennessee to Montana where they settle and establish the ranch that will be known as the Yellowstone ranch.
The spin-off is praised highly both by the audiences and the critics. Some even like the show better than Yellowstone. 1883 has an 8.8 score on IMDB and an 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This is definitely one of the best shows Tim McGraw has been in.
2. The Blind Side
The Blind Side is a biographical sports film that tells the real-life story of Michael Oher, an American football offensive, who played in the National Football League despite his impoverished upbringing. This was due to his adoptive parents Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, played by Tim McGraw and Sandra Bullock. Bullock’s role even made her win an Academy Award for Best Actress.
Even though the movie was highly praised for its actors, it did not really get great reviews from the critics (66% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, it seems that the audience loves the movie (7.6 on IMDB).

3. Soul2Soul
In our list of best Tim McGraw movies and shows, the 3rd place belongs to a rather different genre. As we already mentioned above, McGraw is also a country singer who is married to another American singer Faith Hill. As you know, Faith Hill also plays in 1883, alongside McGraw, in the role of Margaret Dutton. So, the pair are married both on and off the screen.
Soul2Soul is a music documentary that includes the live performances of Tim and Faith on the Soul2Soul world tour (2017), as well as interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage. Although this documentary is not that popular, it is still a witness to the love and compassion of the couple. It has a score of 7.9 on IMDB and we thought it would be better to include it here since it shows the musical talents of Tim McGraw.
4. Country Strong
Country Strong is about a fallen country music star who wants to rise to fame again and collaborates with a rising country music songwriter. The country star is played by Gwyneth Paltrow and the rising songwriter by Garrett Hedlund. The 2 find themselves in an affair although Paltrow’s character is already married to James Canter, played by Tim McGraw.
The audience reaction to the movie was not really good but it wasn’t the worst either (6.3 on IMDB). The critical response, on the other hand, was a complete disaster. The movie received an approval rating of 22% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 132 reviews. Most reviewers agreed that the only 2 things good about the movie were its songs and talented actors.
5. The Shack
One of the worst movies that Tim McGraw played in is The Shack, in which a man called Mack who recently lost his daughter receives a mysterious invitation to meet with God. The invitation shows the meeting point to be a place called “the shack”. Tim McGraw plays Willie, one of Mack’s best friends.
The movie caused a lot of controversies during its release because of its religious content. It also received highly negative reviews from critics (21% on Rotten Tomatoes). The audience doesn’t seem to like the movie as well (6.2 on IMDB).
