Heartland (2007- ) is a Canadian series that has been going on for 15 seasons, and now Season 16 is finally arriving. The show has many beloved characters as much as the ones the Heartland fandom doesn’t really like, such as Heartland Tim Fleming. Most viewers never forgave Tim for what he did to his own family, leaving his 2 daughters for more than 10 years. But even though he gets lots of hate, there might still be some viewers who don’t remember the character’s whole story since the show has been going on for 15 years.
So, let’s remind viewers who Tim Fleming is and see why some viewers hate him so much. Here is all you need to know about Heartland Tim Fleming and his story.
Who is Tim Fleming?
Tim is the father of Amy and Lou Fleming. He used to be married to Marion Fleming, the mother of the girls, but when Lou was 15 and Amy was 5, Tim left Heartland. We see Tim returning to the ranch after Marion goes through a tragic accident and dies. After that, he manages to form good relationships with both of her daughters.
In later seasons, we learn that while he was away, Tim had another child. But he didn’t know that. He learns about the news alongside everyone else. His son’s name is Shane, and his mother is Miranda. As of Season 15, Tim is married to Jessica.

Why Tim Left Marion in Heartland?
As we mentioned, one of the main reasons people are disappointed with Tim is that he left Marion and the girls. The couple got married in the 80s, and Lou was born right after. The couple’s problems started after Lou was born. They began to fight a lot. When Amy was 5 years old, Tim got into an accident and started using pills to get through it. He also developed a drinking problem. Realizing that he had become an addict, Jack threw Tim out of the house, hoping that he would get clean and understand the value of his family. But Tim left his family and only came back after Marion’s death.
The reason why Heartland Tim Fleming left Marion could be explained in many ways. One possible reason could be his unhappiness with Marion because the couple would frequently argue. So, they rarely had a stable marriage. Another reason could be his drinking problem. It could be possible that he couldn’t get out of his drinking problem for a long time and did not want to return to Heartland to upset his family more. Even if this is true, it doesn’t make us forget the fact that he didn’t just leave Marion; he also left his 2 girls, who needed him.
Is Tim in love with Jessica in Heartland?
After the death of Marion, no one really thought, including Heartland Tim Fleming himself, that Tim would settle down with another woman again. Throughout the series, he dates a few women, but those relationships never turn into something serious until he meets Jessica. We genuinely believe Tim is in love with Jessica because deciding to marry her was the 1st time in years that he realized he wanted to wear a wedding ring again.
This doesn’t mean that Tim still cannot be selfish sometimes. He truly can. For example, he never listens when Jessica says she doesn’t want a wedding party. He goes on with his own plan anyways. But you also know that Tim feels remorse after his wrong actions. The feeling of guilt doesn’t justify his actions, but it means that he knows what he did wrong. He just needs to get better at controlling his impulses.
Another reason why we think Tim loves Jessica is him always being by Jessica’s side while she is dealing with another risk of getting cancer. Towards the end of Season 15, Jessica learns that cancer might return back to her body, she doesn’t talk about this with Tim, but Tim understands that something is wrong. When he finally learns, he stays by Jessica’s side no matter what. So, we believe he truly loves her.
