As Heartland Season 16 is finally coming back to CBS, we felt a need to go over a few of the most-loved characters on the series, and one of them is most definitely Heartland Lou Fleming. Just like her sister Amy Fleming, Lou has been in the series since Season 1, and her story has been one of the most exciting stories throughout the seasons. At the end of Season 15, we saw her finally getting back together with Peter. But who was Heartland Lou Fleming at the beginning, and what was her story until the end of Season 15? Let’s find out together.
Who is Lou Fleming?
The full name of Lou is Samantha Louise Fleming, and she is the daughter of Tim and Marion Fleming. She is the older sister of Amy, the protagonist of the whole Heartland story. At the beginning of the series, we see Lou working in New York after attending college there. After her mother’s accident and death, Lou moves back to the Heartland ranch.
At 1st, Amy and Lou don’t get along very well, especially when it comes to the issues of the ranch. Amy is confused because Lou only went to the ranch for a few days in the past. She does not understand why Lou is interested in the ranch suddenly. But Lou is protective of Amy and does not want to leave her alone. They later learn how to work together.
Before Lou and Peter’s relationship in the later seasons, Lou dates a few other men. In the 1st episode of the series, she is actually dating a guy named Carl, who even proposes to her. But Lou learns that Call has only proposed to her because he got a job and told the employers there that he was already engaged. When Lou finds this out, their relationship comes to an end.
Lou then dates Scott Cardinal and Mark Rodriguez. After this, Lisa arranges a date between Lou and Peter, and that’s how their story starts.
Why Lou moved back to Heartland?
Lou comes to Heartland after hearing about her mom Marion and Amy’s accident, after which Marion dies. After Marion’s death, Lou decides to stay on the ranch to help the ranch recover from financial problems. She also loves Amy very much and does not want her to remain alone after their mom’s passing away.
How did Lou fall in love with Peter?
Lisa gives Lou’s email to her friend’s son, and Lou starts chatting with the guy she’s never seen. Around the same time, Lou is fighting against an oil company, and she comes eye to eye with the guy who owns the company. When Lou and the mystery guy go on a date, it turns out the mystery guy is the oil company owner. Lou doesn’t want to continue with the date initially, but she cannot deny the attraction the two have. That’s how their relationship begin.
What happened after Lou and Peter divorced?
Unfortunately, Lou and Peter decide to get a divorce in Season 8 because Peter’s job is far away from Heartland, which means he goes away frequently. Although the couple manages the situation for a while, they realize they cannot handle the distance anymore. They officially sign the divorce papers in Season 10, though, because they have difficulty mentioning the situation to their 2 daughters.
After the divorce, we see Lou struggling but also trying to move on with her life. Soon after, she starts dating Mitch, and the 2 begin a serious relationship. However, in Season 14, something shocking happens, and Lou realizes that she still has feelings for Peter. She breaks up with Mitch. In Season 15, we see her giving her relationship with Peter another chance, and in the season finale, they finally announce that they are officially getting back together!
