Squid Game’s main plot was loud and clear: 456 people with high debts fighting for not only the money but also their lives. However, as if this strong plot was not enough to attract viewers, it also had sub-plots that enriched the premise of the show to the fullest, making it one of the most entertaining projects of recent years. One of those sub-plots revolved around a cop, played by Wi Ha-Joon (Joon-ho), and it was everything we could ask for.
Wi Ha-Joon (Joon-ho)’s involvement in the story was not exactly intentional, as he was merely looking for his missing brother. And yet, one thing led to another and he found himself at the center of the games, as one of the employees. His quest on the horror island brought him many adventures and reveals. The biggest of them all took place at the end of the story when Wi Ha-Joon (Joon-ho) found out that his brother was the one who was in charge of the games. Unfortunately, this major exposure came with a subsequent death as Ha-Joon refused to join his brother and got killed.
There are many opinions online on the sub-plot of Wi Ha-Joon (Joon-ho). However, one thing is clear: we witnessed his killing too early in the series and are still trying to figure out if there is a way to have him back in Season 2. Until the release of Season 2 though, you can always find more about Wi Ha-Joon (Joon-ho), as he is full of surprises! If you want to get to know him better, this is the article for you.
1-) Wi Ha-Joon (Joon-ho) prioritizes having good Asian representation in TV and cinema when choosing projects.
For Ha-Joon, the mainstream media is lacking in the Asian representation department, and he is ready to solve this problem. He desires an entertainment sector cleared off from the stereotypical portrayals of the Asian characters, and thinks that Squid Game is a good start for that end.
“It is truly a great honor to be part of that through Squid Game, to be loved by so many fans and to show off K-content to the world,” he said to Vulture on the issue and added: “I hope that in the future we continue to see more diverse Asian representation in many diverse roles and that I can contribute to letting the world enjoy Korean content through some new and original works going forward.”
2-) Ha-Joon really wanted to have this part on Squid Game.
Ha-Joon is no stranger to the cinema and TV. He has been in the acting business since 2012 and has appeared in many projects, including Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, and Midnight. Despite being an experienced actor, when it comes to auditioning for Squid Game, he got really excited.
When speaking to Soompi on the issue, he said: “I went to the audition with the greed that I had to do this project because it was with such amazing actors and an amazing director. I really wanted to do well.” Now that he has achieved his dream, Ha-Joon has only one regret: he wished he had more scenes with other brilliant actors of the Netflix hit.
3-) Ha-Joon is 30 years old.
The actor is already young but looks even younger. His birthday is on Aug.5, so he is a Leo.
4-) Ha-Joon is 5’11.
The Korean actor’s height is 180 cm and his photoshoots highlight his height. By the way, don’t be fooled by his confident and perfect photos on Instagram. In reality, Ha-Joon is very shy when it comes to showing off and would rather be referred to as a good actor rather than a handsome man.
5-) Ha-Joon grew up on an abalone farm in South Korea.
Apparently, his father was an abalone farmer who was doing the business of luxury abalones that are highly popular in the Asian country.
6-) Ha-Joon is great at dancing.
Well, if he wasn’t a great actor already, we would like to see him as a dancer as his throwback posts on Instagram reveal his talent.
7-) Ha-Joon has an adorable niece that he loves to hang out with.
Most of the social media posts of Ha-Joon revolve around his projects rather than his personal life. However, occasionally, we get lucky to take a glimpse at his day-to-day habits and know that he is a true family man who loves to have fun with his niece.
