The Marked Heart (Pálpito in Spanish) premiered on Netflix on April 20 and immediately found itself as the number 1 most streamed non-English show, which is a good sign, meaning we can see The Marked Heart Season 2 in the future. In the 1st 4 days of its release, the series was watched for 68 million hours, followed by 85 million hours of view in its 2nd week on the platform. The Marked Heart stayed on the Netflix Top 10 for 7 weeks and proved popular in Colombia and more than 60 other countries.
This amount of success usually means Netflix will not let go of this show and lose the chance of making a 2nd season. Is this the case? Let’s find out the future of The Marked Heart Season 2 and see if Netflix has any plans for it.
The Marked Heart Season 2 Release Date
As you can see in the above announcement, released by Netflix on April 29, only 9 days after the show’s premiere on the platform, The Marked Heart received the green light for a Season 2! You can see the happiness of the cast members in the video as they tell you how popular the show has been. Considering the show’s viewership numbers garnered, a 2nd season seemed like a must.
In the video, there is no mention of a release date, though, as it was still early to talk about a release date back then. But now that a few months have passed, we can wonder when the show’s coming out.
Unfortunately, no official news is provided by Netflix, so the exact The Marked Heart Season 2 release date is still a mystery. It is unclear if the cast and the crew started filming as social media accounts of the cast members don’t give us a clue about it. We still believe the show will not come back in 2022, though, since we already got the 1st season in April. The filming and the post-production phase will take much more than.
However, when we look at the releasing schedules of other series in the Spanish language, we see that a new season is released every year. For instance, Elite, one of the most popular non-English Netflix shows, has released a new season every year since 2018. So, we think the new season will probably air in 2023 before the summer. We’re guessing The Marked Heart Season 2 release date will be March or April 2023!
Is the marked heart a true story?
Is The Marked Heart a true story? Well, the short answer is no. The longer answer is more complicated. Venezuelan author and screenwriter Leonardo Padrón wrote the Marked Heart, and the main premise of the series is his original idea. So, what happens in the series is not based on a real-life incident, although organ trade does exist in most countries. This trade is, of course, illegal. In certain instances, poor people are pressured into selling their organs for money, but in other cases, as in The Marked Heart, unwilling donors are abducted.
In summary, the show is based on an original script by Padrón but incorporates the real-life problem of the illegal organ trade.
What happened in the last episode of The Marked Heart?
Although we believe there is still a lot of time until the 2nd season, it would be helpful to go over The Marked Heart ending. In the last episode of Season 1, Camila gives Detective Rentería a statement, telling everything about her heart transplant and her husband Zacarías’ role in the scheme. However, the organization is using Rentería for their demands, threatening him with the life of his family. He kills a police officer and blames the organization while lying and saying they tricked him. In the end, Detective Bracho learns that he shot a police officer and arrests him.
Camila tells Zacarías that she told everything to the police. He also learns that she cheated on her with Simon. That’s why Zacarías asks Sarmiento to kill Simon. But Camila goes to Simon and his children and tells them the truth about their mother’s death. She later fakes her death and flees the country. Only Simon and his family know about her location.
Zacarías, thinking that Camila is dead, believes Sarmiento is the one who did it. So, he hands him over to the police. But in the last sequence of the final episode, he watches a video of Camila touring in a foreign country. And this is where we left off in The Marked Heart ending.
