The 1st and 2nd seasons of the Norwegian series Ragnarok were released in January 2020 and May 2021, respectively. Hence, fans of the show rightfully wonder about the fate of Ragnarok Season 3, which should have been released by now. As the fans may remember, Season 2 ended with a great moment when we saw Magne use Mjölnir, leaving us craving more scenes with Magne and the legendary hammer. Let’s see if we’re ever going to be able to watch scenes like that in the future.
Ragnarok Season 3 Release Date
Fans of Ragnarok can take a breath of relief as the show was confirmed for a Season 3 in November 2021, announced on Netflix Nordic’s Instagram account. The account shared a video of the cast members talking about the renewal of the series for the 3rd season and telling fans how excited they were. Unfortunately, some bad news came with the good one: Ragnarok Season 3 will be the series’ last season.
A few months after the renewal news, Ragnarok Netflix’s Instagram page shared a photo of the cast members on April 8, 2022, with a caption that stated the show was in production. We don’t know if the filming for the new season has already ended, but even if it did, there is no way for Season 3 to return anytime soon due to the post-production process of Netflix shows that last longer than the filming. We expect the new season to come in late 2022 at best.

Ragnarok Season 2 Ending Explained
In the last episode of Season 2, Magne and his friends go to one of the plants of the Jutul family. While Magne’s friends, including Iman, Harry, and Halvor, are apprehended by Fjor, Magne finds enough time to craft Mjölnir and escape. He tries to use the hammer, but his powers don’t return to him yet.
Magne then goes to meet Saxa, who is beaten by her mom and brother. They end up having sex, but this is a distraction. He runs home only to find his brother Loki lying on the ground, beaten and bruised by Ran and Fjor. The two had come out to kill Loki to avenge the death of Vidar, but Loki bartered with them with information about a weapon that could kill Magne. Loki also said that he knows Magne’s biggest weakness, his fear of killing.
When Magne sees Loki on the ground and Ran and Fjor trying to drive off, he unleashes Mjölnir and flings it to their car. The two realize that Magne will attack, so they escape the vehicle at the last minute. The hammer crushes the car and returns to Magne in a legendary scene. After that, Magne tends to his half-brother and says he will protect him no matter what.
The end scene sees Loki with a shady endgame. He releases Jörmungandr, the tapeworm taken out of his stomach, into the water. This tapeworm, as prophesized, will grow into the Midgard Serpent and fight Thor. For Ragnarok, aka the end of days, to become true, Thor and the Serpent will have to die. Do you think that will happen in the 3rd season?
Is Ragnarok Worth to Watch?
Ragnarok currently has a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 score on IMDb. Most reviews point out the novelty in approaching the Norse mythology while saying that the issues the series raises are essential and well-thought-out. Even if you’re not sure about watching Ragnarok, the show has only 6 episodes per season. And episodes are standard in length, 45 minutes on average. So, you don’t have to devote too much effort to finish the series. We believe Ragnarok is worth watching with its fresh take on gods of Norse mythology.
