Shadow and Bone fans were mostly disappointed by Netflix Geeked Week 2022 as they were waiting for a trailer from the upcoming Season 2. All they got was an “official behind the scenes clip,” which didn’t show anything from behind the scenes of the series. The video only features the cast members of Shadow and Bone, the old and the new ones, sending messages to the fans and answering a few questions about Season 2 that do not reveal anything.

The video from Netflix Geeked Week shows Jessie Mei Li, who plays Alina Starkov (aka the Sun Summoner), who says the filming for Shadow and Bone Season 2 has been officially wrapped. Well, at least that’s good news. We also get the see new cast members joining the series like Jack Wolfe, who will be playing a new member of The Crows, Wylan, and Patrick Gibson, who will be portraying Nikolai Lantsov.

Considering the show is currently at the post-production stage, which lasts a bit longer for series that have a lot of CGI, it will be a while for us to see an official trailer. Until then, let’s go over the basics of how to watch Shadow and Bone.

Shadow and Bone only has 1 season that was released in April 2021. The 1st season only had 8 episodes whose lengths ranged from 45 to 58 minutes. Here is a brief Shadow and Bone Episode Guide for those wondering what happens in every episode.

Ep. 1: This episode is where we are introduced to Alina Starkov, an orphan cartographer, and Mal, her tracker childhood friend. The episode immediately introduces the Fold, a dangerous place you have to cross to travel to other parts of the empire. In the journey, Alina discovers that she is the Sun Summoner.

Ep. 2: Alina meets General Kirigan, the Shadow Summoner, who takes her to the Little Palace to start her training to become better at using her powers. We also get a better look at the Crows, a group of thieves who wants to kidnap Alina to earn a significant amount of money.

Ep.3: Alina starts her training, and the Crows try to cross the Fold to reach the Little Palace.

Ep. 4: Mal starts to look for a legendary stag who is believed to be an amplifier for Grisha powers. If Alina can use the stag to amplify her powers, she can even be powerful enough to destroy the Fold. While Mal looks for the stag, Alina begins to fall for General Kirigan.

Ep. 5: Mal finds the stag and tells General Kirigan. Baghra, the trainer of Alina, tells her that General Kirigan should not find the stag because he wants to use it to enlarge the Fold and that Alina should flee the Little Palace. Alina escapes by jumping into the Crows’ carriage.

Ep. 6: Alina runs from the Crows. She and Mal reunite. They go to find the stag before Kirigan.

Ep. 7: Alina finds the stag, but Kirigan arrives and kills it himself. He puts a part of the stag’s antlers into Alina’s collars and a piece into his hand. Kirigan now can control Alina’s powers.

Ep. 8: Using Alina’s powers, Kirigan expands the Fold while on a ship. Below the boat’s deck, the Crows and Mal plan to stop Kirigan. Alina finds a way to take the piece from Kirigan’s hands and, with the help of the Crows and Mal, defeats his forces. We think the monsters eat Kirigan in the Fold, but he emerges from the Fold with mysterious creatures at the end of the episode.

As we briefly discussed above, the show’s post-production stage will most likely last a few months. With that being said, we expect the 2nd season to arrive towards the end of 2022. We believe we will have the new season in December 2022.

One of the favorite characters of the series, Inej, is played by Amita Suman (who we also saw in the behind-the-scenes clip from Netflix Geeked Week 2022). Suman is a Nepali-British actress who is only 24 years old. She is best known for her character in Shadow and Bone, but she also played Naya in The Outpost (2018-2021). The actress is dating Johnny Thackway.
