1883, the prequel to Paramount’s most popular drama Yellowstone, kept us in suspense for 10 episodes and left us heartbroken when it ended. We’re sure fans of the series want to see more of 1883 on-screen (as do we!), and wondering about 1883 Season 2. Has the future of the series been decided yet? How to watch 1883? Does Elsa die at the end of the series? Here’s everything we know about 1883 Season 2.
The spin-off series to Yellowstone created by Taylor Sheridan, premiered on December 19, 2021 on Paramount+. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill (reprising her roles as James and Margaret Dutton), Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Eric Nelsen, Marc Rissmann, Sam Elliott, Audie Rick and James Landry Hébert.
The show covers the story of how the Duttons came to own the land that became Yellowstone Ranch. It follows the postwar generation of the Dutton family as they leave Tennessee, travel to Fort Worth, Texas, and join a train of European immigrants on their long journey west to Oregon, eventually settling in Montana and establishing the Yellowstone Ranch. The series depicts the hardships and challenges that the Duttons’ predecessors endured on the way to establishing the ranch. It also reveals why it’s so important for the Duttons to protect their land in Yellowstone, no matter what.
1883 Season 2
The last episode of 1883 aired on February 27, 2022, and although the series offered a satisfying ending, fans want more episodes. Unfortunately, though, Taylor Sheridan, the creator of both Yellowstone and 1883, has stated that he planned 1883 as a limited series, namely a 10-hour movie with a convincing ending. So we can say that there won’t be a 1883 Season 2, despite the high ratings and good reviews that the series has received.
Nevertheless, the story of the Duttons isn’t over yet! A new prequel to Yellowstone, titled 1932, has been set in motion. It’ll revolve around a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early 20th century as pandemics, a historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression plague the Mountain West and the Duttons who call it home.
The prequel is expected to hit screens in December 2022, after Yellowstone returns with its 5th season.

Does Elsa Die in 1883?
Sadly, Elsa Dutton, the main character and narrator of 1883, dies at the end of the series. Her death leaves a deep impression on the viewers, but we somehow knew that she’d die in the end. Her death seems to be foreshadowed in the first episode, as the story begins with a battle with Indians.
But how does she die? Elsa succumbs to infection and dies in the final episode. Her last wish was to decide for herself where she should be buried. So James and Margaret decide to settle where Elsa decides. That’s how the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is born. That’s, her death becomes the turning point for the birth of the Dutton Ranch, a property which will be inherited and protected by a family for more than a hundred years.
