What is the first couple that comes to your mind when you hear “Heartland”? Your answer is probably Amy and Ty. Even though Amy and Ty’s position as a couple on top of the Heartland legacy is unshakable, there are other couples in the show who provide major romance, drama, and chemistry to the TV screen. Out of them, the one we will examine is Heartland Lou and Peter, a couple that has gone through a lot.
Heartland Lou and Peter was once a happily married couple who managed to stay together against all odds until the unexpected divorce caused them to part ways. Yet, having two lovely daughters together, the couple’s tenderness for each other has never gone away completely, which forces us to talk about their possible future together even to this day.
In this article, we collected everything that is needed to be known on the love story of Heartland Lou and Peter. If you are ready for a rollercoaster of romance, then just keep on reading.
Lou Fleming
Lou is at the heart of the Heartland characters as the older sister of Amy. The series starts with her return from New York, where she was studying at the university, after her mother’s death. Initially assisting the Heartland ranch in its business, she steps up in her career journey up until becoming the mayor of Hudson. In the meantime, she also has multiple romantic adventures, one of which ends up in a rocky and yet strong marriage.
Heartland Lou and Peter Marriage
Heartland Lou and Peter met through Lisa, as she gave Lou’s e-mail to a friend’s son. Even though reluctant at first, Lou soon warms up to the idea of meeting someone online and starts to talk with the mysterious stranger. Meanwhile, she comes eye to eye with an “oil guy” who owns Bedford Oil, a company that Lou fights against. Despising the guy, she goes on a first date with her e-mail crush. To her surprise, the mysterious e-mail guy turns out to be the oil guy himself. Lou finds herself confused, and yet cannot deny the attraction. An then, their romance officially starts.
Although the Heartland family first rejects Peter for representing everything they stand against by being an “oil guy,” as the couple’s relationship improves, they also gradually get fond of him. Peter’s job, which is in Vancouver – kilometers away from Heartland ranch -, continues to be a problem for the couple though. The long-distance relationship often troubles the two. Still, they decide to get married to be closer to each other and praise their love.
Why did Lou and Peter divorce?
Unfortunately, marriage does not solve the issue of keeping a long-distance relationship. Heartland Lou and Peter, despite having two daughters, start to spend more and more time separate, rather than together. Eventually, the mention of divorce comes to the table at Season 8 and leads to a separation soon after. The process of divorce, however, drags for about 2 seasons, as they struggle to share the news with their daughter. Heartland Lou and Peter finally sign the divorce papers on Season 10 Episode 10.
Are Lou and Peter back together?
After the divorce, Lou moves on with her life, starting to have a serious relationship with Mitch. Still, Peter continues to be a part of her life as he is the father of her children. Just we were about to lose faith in Heartland Lou and Peter, at the Season 14 finale, things have got a strange turn. Realizing she still has feelings for Peter, Lou breaks up with Mitch and informs Peter of her emotions. This means that the romance between the two is likely to resume in Season 15 and we cannot wait for it!
