There are several reasons to like Yellowstone, and the first reason is the amazing place they produced the show. Viewers are captivated by the Paramount Network show’s compelling drama, convoluted romances, and star-studded ensemble, which is led by Hollywood heartthrob Kevin Costner. If the continuing battle and amazing performances weren’t enough to draw viewers in, Yellowstone’s jaw-dropping environment would.

The 2,500-acre Chief Joseph Farm in Darby, Montana, which serves as the program’s fictitious Dutton Ranch where John Dutton lives, is not only a genuine historic site, family homestead, and functioning ranch, and also it’s a guest ranch with cottages for rent when the show isn’t filming.

Yellowstone is a Paramount Network modern-day TV western. The cowboy drama follows the Dutton family, led by patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). The Duttons will have to protect America’s largest ranch, which borders Yellowstone National Park, from landowners, an Indian territory, and the park itself. Taylor Sheridan, who began his career as an actor before scripting critically acclaimed films such as Sicario and Hell or High Water, spearheaded this huge project.

The peculiar setting of Dutton Ranch, along with expansive fields, overhanging hills, and the ranch’s characteristic cottages, serves as the perfect background for the violent western series. So, where is Yellowstone shot, and does it genuinely look like that in real life? Here’s all you need to know about the topic of the real farm where the program Yellowstone is set and produced.

Many of Yellowstone’s episodes feature beautiful vistas of the great outdoors, all of which are completely real and genuine. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, 70-75% of the first three seasons of the show were shot at more than 20 different locales around Utah as part of the state’s production incentive plan.

“This was the largest exhibition that has ever come to the nation of Utah,” said Marshall Moore, Vice President of Utah Film Studios. Park City, Ogden, and Spanish Fork were the main cities where processing took place.

The picturesque Chief Joseph Ranch is not far from Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. The property is about one mile south of the little hamlet of Darby in Ravalli County. Ranch house sequences and other furnishings were shot on the soundstages of the Utah Film Studio in Park City for the first three seasons.

The governor’s office is housed in Helena’s majestic Montana State Capitol, which was built between 1896 and 1902. The court sequences were also shot in the beautiful Old Supreme Court chamber, which was created in the Greek neoclassical architectural form.

Bitterroot Valley

The majority of the breathtaking beauty in the series was shot in the Bitterroot Valley in Darby, a section of the Rocky Mountains that runs along the boundary between Montana and Idaho. The Montana Standard also stated that the production shot sequences along the Big Hole River on the I-15 highway between Butte and Melrose.

The facade of the Schwartz & Meyer bank building in Salt Lake City is really situated at 2505 Lincoln Avenue, on the intersection of 25th Street, in Ogden, Utah. More street scenes were shot on Ogden’s famed 25th Street, a three-block strip full of fantastic restaurants, art galleries, and stores. Yellowstone National Park is located in the United States’ northwest area on a very good spot for both a set and visitors. The park has a total area of 3,472 square miles. Yellowstone National Park is located in three states, despite the fact that its official location is in Wyoming. The vast bulk of Yellowstone National Park (96%) is located in Wyoming. Montana has a minor portion of the park (3%) to the north and northwest.

And, to the west, a small portion of the park (1%) lies in Idaho. Yellowstone National Park has five access points: north, northeast, east, south, and west. Because the park is so large, it’s a good idea to plan ahead of time whatever you want to visit and which gate is nearest to those attractions.

Where does Yellowstone cast live?

Dutton Ranch in Yellowstone National Park is real property, and yes, you may stay there technically, just as the cast did while the show was being shot.

While no one would ever need to be in John’s shoes, with greedy real estate developers and bloodthirsty rivals continuously on his tail, it’s impossible to handle the appeal of a ravishing western lodge surrounded by nothing but wild horses and scenic views so unfeasibly beautiful. And it’s clear to see why John is ready to go to such lengths to safeguard it all. Wouldn’t you agree?

The fact that Yellowstone’s Dutton Ranch is a real-life functioning ranch in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley, rather than a set on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles, just adds to the fantasy. Not to add that you can really stay there, waking up to the same completely open sky, rolling hills, and snowcapped peaks that welcome John, Beth, Rip, and the others every morning.

The Chief Joseph Ranch, as the Dutton Ranch is formally known, was owned land by settlers in 1880 along the same path formerly crossed by Lewis and Clark. The 2,500-acre estate was acquired 34 years later by federal court Howard Clark Hollister and glass magnate William Ford. They hired Bates & Gamble to design the main 6,000-square-foot lodge and hauled in the largest breed of Holstein cattle west of the Mississippi.
