Tom Holland is a 26-year-old British actor. He was born in Kingston in southwest London. He has 3 younger brothers, and his mother is a photographer while his father is a comedian and author. For a while, his dad acted as Holland’s manager because he was familiar with the industry. He first started out as a dancer at the young age of 9. While performing a show, he was spotted by a choreographer (Lynne Page) for Billy Elliot the Musical. Lynne arranged an audition for Tom and after 2 years of ballet, tap dancing, and acrobatics training, he won the role of Michael Caffrey in the musical.
He, later on, was promoted to play Billy Elliot himself and got back positive reviews. In 2012, Holland got a part in the movie The Impossible. Transitioning from stage to screen was initially hard for Tom Holland as a young actor. However, working on the movie alongside Naomi Watts made him realize that he wanted to pursue a career in acting permanently.

His first screen debut The Impossible brought Tom a taste for success. He was praised for his performance, and the movie was a success. However, his big break on the big screens came in 2016. He was cast as Peter Parker in “Captain America: Civil War”. Holland says that growing up, he was a big fan of Spider-Man, as he owned costumes and bed sheet covers with the character on them.
He auditioned against 1500 teenagers, including fellow British actors Asa Butterfield and Charlie Row. For the producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, Tom Holland’s performances in his previous movies were enough. However, for the Russo Brothers, his background in dance and gymnastics was what made him fit for the role. After his first appearance, Holland made 7 movies as Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe. He also met his current girlfriend Zendaya while doing the Spider-Man solo movies alongside her!
Since Spider-Man, Holland starred in movies like The Devil All The Time, Cherry, Uncharted, and he’s set to star in a TV series called The Crowded Room. His success is getting bigger, and better!

What does Tom Holland struggle with?
Tom Holland was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 7. After his diagnosis, his parents decided to send him to a private school and didn’t want his brothers to feel left out, so they all started going to a private school. He occasionally gets hounded on social media for grammar mistakes. He also revealed in 2021 that after rising to fame, he started experiencing sleep paralysis.
Sleep paralysis is described as “a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It happens when a person is passing between the stages of wakefulness and sleep”. For Holland, it occurs when he’s having a nightmare, he wakes up unable to move, and he’s surrounded by paparazzi taking his pictures. So, Tom Holland struggles with dyslexia and occasional sleep paralysis.
How does Tom Holland hide his accent?
The Spider-Man actor has impressed people around the world with his many talents. But what surprises them more is his ultra-convincing American accent! However, it’s not real and his dialect is actually British. The actor himself has revealed that he has shocked fans more times than once! His first work to change his dialect was for the movie In the Heart of the Sea. He had to capture the voice of a cabin boy with a dialect from the early 19th-century era with a hint of New England locale.
Shortly after, he dived into the American accent to become the Peter Parker we know. For this, he worked with Rick Lipton to master the Midtown sound Peter has, and apart from a little slip-up on day one of shooting, he had huge success portraying an American!
