The 5th season of The Handmaid’s Tale premiered on Hulu with a two-part opening episode on September 14, 2022,. Hulu also briefly explained what to expect: “June faces repercussions for killing Commander Waterford while attempting to reestablish her identity and purpose.”
Bruce Miller created the dystopian television program The Handmaid’s Tale in America., based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name. The streaming site Hulu ordered the project as a straight-to-series order of ten episodes, with production beginning in late 2016. After the Second American Civil War, fertile women are forced into child-bearing servitude in a theocratic, authoritarian society known as “Handmaids.”
The first season of The Handmaid’s Tale received eight Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It is the first major award-winning program on Hulu and the first streaming service-based series to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Series. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama. Elisabeth Moss also received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series.

Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne
American actor Elisabeth Singleton Moss was born on July 24, 1982. She is well-known for her role in several television dramas and has been dubbed the “Queen of Peak TV” by Vulture after winning two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.
Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford
Australian actress Yvonne Jaqueline Strzechowski, born on July 30, 1982, is also known by her stage name, Yvonne Strahovski. She is most known for her dramatic television performances. She has won several accolades and been nominated for several awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Madeline Brewer as Janine
American actress Madeline Kathryn Brewer was born on May 1, 1992. She is most recognized for her roles as Tricia Miller in the Emmy Award-winning television series Orange Is the New Black (2013), Alice/Lola in the lead role in the Netflix horror film Cam, and Hemlock Grove (2014–2015). She is the lead actress in the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale, which premiered in 2017 and for which she is vying for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia
Actress Ann Dowd was born in the United States on January 30, 1956. Green Card (1990), Lorenzo’s Oil (1992), Philadelphia (1993), Garden State (2004), The Manchurian Candidate (2004), Marley & Me (2008), Side Effects (2013), St. Vincent (2014), Captain Fantastic (2016), and Hereditary are just a few of the movies she has been in supporting parts in (2018). In 2012’s thriller Compliance, in which Dowd played Sandra, she won the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress.
O-T Fagbenle as Luke
British actor, writer, and director Olatunde Olateju Olaolorun “O-T” Fagbenle is an Emmy nominee. He has made several films, theater, and television appearances. Fagbenle is well recognized for his depiction of Barack Obama in The First Lady and his role as Luke in The Handmaid’s Tale (2017–2022).
Max Minghella as Nick
On September 16, 1985, Max Giorgio Choa Minghella was born; she is an English actor, screenwriter, director, and producer of movies. He is recognized for his work in the motion pictures Syriana (2005), Art School Confidential (2006), Elvis and Anabelle (2007), The Social Network (2010), The Ides of March (2011), The Internship (2013), Horns (2013), and Spiral (2021), as well as for his portrayal of Nick Blaine in the television series The Handmaid’s Tale (2017–present), for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 2021.
Samira Wiley as Moira
American actress Samira Denise Wiley was born on April 15, 1987. She is most recognized for her starring performances in Orange Is the New Black and The Handmaid’s Tale, both of which won her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Both of these dystopian drama series are available on Hulu and Netflix, respectively. She also played Moira in the former, for which she received the same honor.
Bradley Whitford as Commander Lawrence
Bradley Whitford, an American actor, and producer, was born on October 10, 1959. He is most known for playing Josh Lyman, the White House deputy chief of staff, in the NBC television political drama The West Wing (1999–2006). For this role, he received three Primetime Emmy nominations in a row (2001–2003), winning the award in 2001. For this performance, he was nominated for a Golden Globe three times in a row.
