The new Netflix movie The Gray Man is finally out, and if you have already watched it, you may have realized that there are some unanswered questions at the end of the movie, which may have been left for The Gray Man 2. Although the film has just come out, you may be wondering about a possible sequel and when it would come out. We have the answers for you below.
The Gray Man 2 Release Date
As the movie ended, we still didn’t learn who the old man was. Carmichael (Regé-Gean Page) was talking about this mysterious old man, but his identity never came out at the film’s end. This potentially leaves an open door for a future movie when we will learn the identities of the secret guy that Carmichael is working for (we couldn’t learn who that is either) and the old man he was afraid of. They may be the same person, but the only answer would come from a possible The Gray Man 2, about which there is no official talk yet.
Honestly, the movie’s fate depends on how much it will be streamed in the following weeks. The film made a name for itself when it was revealed that it is Netflix’s most expensive movie, with a budget of around $200 million. So, The Gray Man has to end up with great viewership numbers for the producers at Netflix to plan to make a sequel. We believe this will be decided a month later when we’ll see if the movie will even manage to rank among Netflix’s most-watched movies.
When we consider that the previous most expensive Netflix movie Red Notice is the most-streamed Netflix movie, it was viewed for 364 million hours in its 1st 28 days. Let’s see if The Gray Man can top that a month from now. If it does, a sequel will come for sure. The Russo Brothers are lucky since the movie was based on a book series by Mark Greaney, who has a few more books under his belt that includes The Gray Man character. So, it wouldn’t be long before the directors developed a screenplay for a sequel.
If this is the case, we believe we can see a sequel in 2 or 3 years, so The Gray Man 2 release date would be the summer of 2025. We shouldn’t forget that these big movies include a long production stage considering they have multiple action sequences. Also, they include big names in Hollywood who may have other projects that they might have to attend to. So, the writing, casting, pre-and post-production, and filming will take a few years.

The Gray Man Ending Explained
In The Gray Man ending, we see Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton) sacrificing himself so that Six (Ryan Gosling) can escape with Claire (Julia Butters). As the showdown between Six and Hansen (Chris Evans) finally takes place, Carmichael’s 2nd in command, Suzanne (Jessica Hanwick), comes up and kills Hansen, well, at least, mortally wounds him (he seemed dead anyway). She also shoots Six in the leg.
She takes the drive that includes evidence about Carmichael, Suzanne, and Hansen and hands it to Carmichael for him to destroy. She plans to pin everything on Hansen and leave herself and Carmichael out of it. Her plan succeeds, and the government believes them. An essential part of her plan includes taking Claire under the CIA’s care to make it seem like they were the ones saving her rather than Six.
They take Claire under their care, but in The Gray, Man ending, Six, who was sent to prison, manages to escape and save Claire at the movie’s end.
Is The Gray Man Worth Watching?
Unfortunately, the reviews for The Gray Man are relatively bad, as the movie holds a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most reviewers call the film a mess and say it looks like a rip-off of other more successful action movies. They also criticize the acting performances of the cast members, including Ryan Gosling, who plays the role with zero emotion whatsoever. The only highly praised performance is Chris Evans, who manages to play a great villain after playing one of the good guys in the MCU for 10 years.
If you like action movies and want to see some fire, car crashes, chases, and hand-to-hand combat, The Gray Man is worth watching. But if you’re looking for a good storyline, we don’t recommend this movie.
