The 2nd season of Netflix’s Kingdom was released 2 years ago on March 13, 2020, which means we have been waiting for a new season for 2 years now. This long wait makes everyone doubtful over the future of the series and compels us to wonder when Netflix Kingdom Season 3 release date is going to be.
Kingdom is a South Korean historical action/drama that takes place at the beginning of the 17th century. In the 1st season, we follow Crown Prince Lee Chang and his subordinates who stumble upon a plague that apparently resurrects the dead. Crown Prince has to deal with this chaos and at the same time, investigate the political conspiracy and rumors of the king’s death.
After its release, the show quickly became critically acclaimed, receiving a score of 94% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Even before the 1st season aired on Netflix, the platform renewed the show for a 2nd season, which aired only a year after the 1st one. We believe this unfortunate situation to be because of the production delays that become a pain in the ass for many series and movie productions since the beginning of Covid-19. We think if the show was canceled, we would know about it by now since it has been 2 years since the last season.
We would like to hope that the show is coming for another season but Netflix is waiting for the right time to announce it.

Kingdom is based on a webtoon (digital comic) series called ‘The Land of the Gods’ written by Kim Eun-hee and designed by Yang Kyung-il. The Netflix series is also written by Kim who wrote the series as a fictional story. However, some of the details of the show are based on a real account.
In 2011, Kim was going through the annals of the Joseon Dynasty (the dynasty that is portrayed in the show) and encountered a mysterious disease that killed thousands of people in King Soonjo’s reign in Hanyang, which was the capital city of the Joseon empire. Kim could not find anything regarding the details of the plague but started to write a story about it. And that’s how Kingdom was born!
All in all, although Kingdom is based on the account of a historical plague, it is set in a fictional world with fictional characters.

When Kingdom’s Season 2 ended, we were quite sure about Netflix Kingdom Season 3 to arrive in 2021, considering Season 1 and Season 2 respectively aired in 2019 and 2020. However, there is still no news from either Netflix or the writer of the series. All we have to do is wait and see when an official announcement or a promo about Netflix Kingdom Season 3 will actually arrive.

Some of the real locations that welcomed the cast and the crew of Kingdom was as follows: Changdeokgung Palace, Gwallamjeong Pavilion, Aeryeonji Pond, Injeongjeon Hall, Bidulginangpokpo Falls, Deogyusan National Park, and many more places.

to expect the season to be filmed and released in 2021 just because previous seasons aired in 2019 and 2020 is to be absolutely out of touch with reality, when there was a pandemic.
