Netflix has completed production on a new teen LGBTQ romantic drama series titled Heartstopper, solidifying its position as the foremost destination for young adult entertainment. The new series will premiere soon, and here’s an updated rundown of what we know thus far.

Heartstopper is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels and depicts the narrative of two lads who meet in a British grammar school and develop affections for each other. What follows is a lovely and meaningful narrative about love, life, and friendship while coping with difficulties such as Charlie’s mental illness and coming out.

Heartstopper began as a webcomic on Tumblr and Tapas, where it quickly became a smash, inspiring Oseman to write his first novel, Solitaire, with the same characters. Since then, author Alice Oseman has produced three book collections, with the fourth due out soon. Oseman also created the Netflix series’ script.

Euros Lyn, famed for his work on Sherlock, Doctor Who, Daredevil, and other shows, will direct all eight episodes of the show, which will be produced by See-Saw Films.

Patrick Walters, the executive producer at See-Saw Films, stated: “Heartstopper is a concert that celebrates uniqueness, encourages acceptance, and, most importantly, makes you smile.” This cast does this by providing heart, humor, and complexity to their parts.”

What is Heartstopper about?

Heartstopper, a moving story about identity, friendship, and first love, is being adapted into a new Netflix series. The eight-parter will feature Kit Connor (Rocketman, His Dark Materials) as popular year 11 student Nick, who ultimately ended up becoming friends with Charlie in the year below after being written and conceived by novelist Alice Oseman and directed by Sherlock and Doctor Who filmmaker Euros Lyn. But as their relationship grows, they both begin to question whether there is anything more between them.

Heartstopper follows two British teenagers in an all-boys grammar school — Charlie, a high-strung, openly gay overthinker, and Nick Nelson, a joyful, soft-hearted rugby player — who are forced to sit beside one day.

The two rapidly become friends, and Charlie finds himself falling for Nick, despite the fact that he doesn’t think he has a chance. However, as the book progresses, Nick and Charlie discover a large network of allies and friends surrounding them, while also discovering that there is no “correct way” to come out.

“Heartstopper is a tribute of youthful queer love in all of its manifestations,” says executive producer Patrick Walters of the program. “We hope that audiences will connect with this narrative.”
