How to Watch Sweet Tooth
In “The Great Crumble,” civilization crumbled ten years ago owing to a viral outbreak of a sickness known as the Sick, wiping out the majority of the world’s human population and resulting in the inexplicable birth of hybrid kids — part human, part animal.
Many people dread and hunt hybrids because they are unsure whether they are the source or a result of the virus. Gus, a half-deer hybrid, dwells in the woods with his father, who dies when Gus is nine. Gus discovers a box hidden behind a tree by his father; the box includes what Gus believes to be a photograph of his mother with the word “Colorado” scrawled on it.
Gus decides to leave his and his father’s house in the bush to find his mother a year after his father’s death. The fire draws the attention of surrounding hunters, who attempt to kill Gus for sport. On the other hand, the hunters are noticeably surprised when Gus speaks. The hunters are then killed by Tommy Jepperd, “Big Man,” a lone traveler who tries to leave Gus behind but is pursued by Gus.
Gus is adamant that Jepperd will accompany him to Colorado to find his mother. Jepperd fights back, but he protects Gus, who refuses to leave him alone. The plot also follows Dr. Aditya Singh and his wife as they struggle to find a treatment for the Sick and Aimee, a former therapist who seeks to safeguard her hybrid refuge known as “The Preserve.”
