Which one is your favorite among Miss Scarlet and the Duke characters? Or which character do you think is the worst? Even though it was hell for us to choose the best character, because we love them all, in this article we present you all Miss Scarlet and the Duke characters that we rank from best to worst. Without much ado, let’s dive in!
1. Eliza Scarlet
Eliza Scarlet is an unconventional woman who goes against the grain and takes over her father’s detective agency after his sudden death. She’s so intelligent and consistent that she can solve any case – even those taken over by Scotland Yard. The author and creator of the series, Rachael New, was inspired by Elizabeth Bennett from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Scarlett O’Hara from Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind when creating the character Eliza. That’s probably why Eliza is the favorite of most viewers among the Miss Scarlet and the Duke characters. Kate Phillips plays the role of Eliza.
2. William Wellington
William Wellington is called “The Duke” in the police force, in reference to the Duke of Wellington. He is a detective inspector at Scotland Yard and the protégé of Henry Scarlet, Eliza’s father. Because of this, William feels he must protect Eliza, but the bond between them doesn’t stop them from teasing each other. William is a classic Victorian man who believes that women have no business in public and shouldn’t interfere with men’s business. Eliza, on the other hand, enjoys getting involved in Scotland Yard’s murder cases. Stuart Martin, who plays the Duke, wins the hearts of the audience with his nice Scottish accent.
3. Henry Scarlet
Henry Scarlet is a private detective and the father of Eliza, who dies suddenly in the first episode, supposedly from a heart attack. Mr. Scarlet is a very smart man who was quite successful in his profession and raised his daughter by himself. Since he lost his wife quite early, the care of Eliza was in his hands. Although we as the audience don’t get to see much of him, Henry Scarlet is a naive and fair character, which is why we think he is one of the best Miss Scarlet and the Duke characters. Kevin Doyle plays Henry Scarlet.

4. Rupert Parker
Rupert Parker is a homosexual character in the series. His mother is the landlady of Eliza’s apartment and also wants her son to marry Eliza. However, Rupert reveals his sexual identity to Eliza. He then also invests in Eliza’s business to save her from bankruptcy, and the two become friends and business partners instead of lovers. The role of Rupert is played by Andrew Gower.
5. Clara Simms
Clara Simms is probably the most innocent character in Miss Scarlet and the Duke. She is wanted by her troublesome husband who is trying to inherit her father’s fortune. The husband hires Eliza, claiming he is looking for her niece. When Eliza finds Clara in a titty bar and takes her with the so-called uncle, Clara is shocked to see her husband before her. Eliza realizes her mistake and rescues Clara from the asylum where her husband sends her to take her money. Clara Simms is played by Ellise Chappell.
6. Margaret Fairfax
Here is the most evil of the characters of Miss Scarlet and the Duke. Margaret Fairfax is a leader of the women’s suffrage group that appears in Episode 3 and is willing to use any means to sanctify the end. Through her misconduct, she even brings the name of women’s suffrage into disrepute. Although Margaret initially succeeds in deceiving Eliza, in the end Eliza manages to uncover her malicious plans and save London from a bombing. The role of Margaret Fairfax is played by Caitlin Drabble.
