1. Into the Forest
The post-apocalyptic movie, which is at the top of our list, appears as Into the Forest.
The 2015 Canadian independent drama film Into the Forest, starring Elliot Page and Evan Rachel Wood as orphaned survivor sisters in a forest without electricity, was written and directed by Patricia Rozema. It is based on the 1996 novel by Jean Hegland.
Nell and Eva, two sisters in their teens, live in a small home with their father in a forest. Eventually, their father gets the car working, and they make it to the nearest town. After Nell and Eli sleep together, he says there may still be power and order in Boston. Nell is persuaded to accompany him, but after spending a night away from home, she decides against it. The sisters flee for a hollowed-out tree stump that once served as their play house.
2. I Am Mother
I am Mother comes second on our list of the best apocalyptic movies on Netflix.
Grant Sputore and Michael Lloyd Green’s 2019 Australian science fiction thriller I Am Mother was based on both of their stories and was directed by Sputore. The movie, starring Clara Rugaard, Luke Hawker, Rose Byrne, and Hilary Swank, follows Daughter, a young child raised by Mother, a robot assisting in the repopulation of Earth, in a post-apocalyptic bunker. On January 25, 2019, the movie made its international debut at the Sundance Film Festival. On June 7, 2019, Netflix launched it in several nations.
Norwegian director and writer Jarand Herdal’s 2020 horror thriller Cadaver, sometimes known as Kadaver, also stars Gitte Witt, Thomas Gullestad, and Thorbjrn Harr.
However, she loses her daughter Alice (Tuva Olivia Remman) in one of the long, dark corridors. Leo is haunted by Alice’s visions and is eventually led down into a boiler basement. Mathias selects a few survivors to help capture the remaining spectators to be harvested for their flesh. Leo is caught by Mathias and Jacob, who offers her a chance to join the butchery. Jacob attacks one of the men trying to help his wife because he can’t bear to see her suffer. Mathias stabs himself to death, leaving Leo as the only survivor.
Robbie Amell plays an engineer whose invention causes a time loop during a house invasion in the 2016 American-Canadian science fiction action movie ARQ, which Tony Elliott directed.
Renton wakes with a start back in bed with Hannah, only to relive the same scenario. He theorizes that the ARQ is causing a time loop. Renton asks Hannah to help poison intruders with cyanide gas to force them to stand down. Hannah and Renton unknowingly enter a time loop where they have unknowingly repeated the same nine loops thousands of times.
5. The Silence
The movie shows a world attacked by creatures that hunt by sound. A cult tries to exploit Shipka’s character, a late-deafened adolescent who seeks refuge with her family.
A cave research team unearths an unknown species of pterosaur-like creature, referred to as “vests”, from a mine. The vests violently kill the researchers, fly out of the mine, and seek the noisiest areas. Hugh leads his family on foot after setting Glenn’s car on fire as a decoy. Lynn struggles to keep up, and her coughing puts the family at risk. Hugh distracts them by turning on a woodchipper, crushing the vests flying into it.
Omar Epps, Kate Walsh, Miranda Cosgrove, and Angus Macfadyen star in the 2019 American science fiction film 3022. The movie takes place in the future on a space station. After seeing what they assume to be the destruction of Earth, the crew experiences extreme stress and contemplates quitting their mission. A succession of flashbacks and flashforwards are used to narrate the story.
7. The Rim of the World
Adapted from a screenplay by Zack Stentz, McG is the director of the 2019 American science fiction adventure movie Rim of the World.
Alex attends summer camp with two other “misfits,” Zhen Zhen, an orphan girl from China, and Dariush, an outspoken boy from a wealthy family. They witness an alien invasion of their camp but manage to elude the aliens. They go to the sheriff’s office and discover an escapee from juvie. A group of masked assailants led by a homicidal thief attacks them. Dariush, Gabriel, Zhen Zhen, and Alex are sent to a Cold War defense project named Excalibur.
8. Bird Box
Bird Box is a 2018 American post-apocalyptic horror thriller film directed by Susanne Bier and written by Eric Heisserer, based on Josh Malerman’s 2014 book of the same name. The movie follows Sandra Bullock’s portrayal of Malorie Hayes as she works to shield her two children and herself from entities that force people to commit suicide when they stare at them.
