Based on Katie Cappello’s play Slut: The Play, Grand Army was developed by the same writer and premiered on Netflix on October 16, 2020. It’s a teen drama set in a public high school in Brooklyn, New York, and revolves around five students who struggle with various issues as they try to develop a future for themselves. The nine-part series touches on important issues such as racism, terrorism, sexual identity, rape and so on.
3) The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
The third series on our list of shows like Heartstopper is a Japanese anime series based on a manga of the same name. First aired in 2016, the series follows Kusuo Saiki, a 16-year-old high school student who’s supernatural powers. Many of us would be happy to have powers like telekinesis and telepathy, but Kusuo doesn’t want to have supernatural powers because he wants to live like a normal person. He’s to stay away from other people. With a mixture of science fiction and comedy, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. depicts the difficulties that an unusual teenager has in an ordinary society. The series has 3 seasons, all of which are available to stream on Netflix.

4) Never Have I Ever
Never Have I Ever is about a 15-year-old Indian-American girl named Devi Vishwakumar who deals with social and psychological issues such as dealing with loss, racial identity, social status, and balancing family and friends. After the sudden loss of her father, Devi loses her ability to walk for a few months until she wants to see her crush, Paxton. A coming-of-age drama, the series depicts Devi’s internal and external struggles, for example, how she deals with accepting her Indian-American identity. Season 3 is just around the corner, and the series has already been renewed for a 4th season.
5) Everything Sucks!

Anyway… Everything Sucks! is a parody of the teen culture of the 1990s, created by Ben York Jones and Michael Mohan. Set in 1996 in Boring, Oregon, the series follows the misfit students of Boring High School as they try to make a movie together. Meanwhile, they must deal with teenage issues such as sexuality and mental health. With romance and comedy, the series offers a lot about growing up. Everything Sucks! has been available on Netflix since its release in 2018.
