Having gained the title of the most popular Tv show (English) on Netflix, Stranger Things 4 has been at the center of social media since the 1st part of Season 4 dropped on May 27. As fans consider the 4th season the best season of the show, they look at all the seasons to decide which one has the best Stranger Things episodes.
The easiest way to learn which episodes of the series are most liked by viewers is to look at their IMDb scores. Here are the best Stranger Things episodes according to their IMDb scores with explanations that tell you why that is so.
1. The Massacre At Hawkins Lab
This may be surprising, but the episode with the highest ranking on IMDb is the 7th episode of Stranger Things 4, called “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab.” The episode was full of twists and shocking revelations. We learned who Vecna and number 001 are, and they turned out to be the same person! We also found out that Eleven created the current version of Vecna by opening up a gate to the Upside Down and throwing him in there.
Most fans commented on how these revelations were much needed and connected the dots while also bringing up more questions, such as, is Vecna the ruler of the Upside Down, or does he work under the Mind Flayer? Was Eleven who created the Upside Down, or does she have the ability to open up portals to it?
2. Dear Billy
We are still behind our argument about Season 4 being the best season of the series, which is once again proven by the fact that it has 2 of the series’ highest-rated episodes. The 4th episode of Season 4, named Dear Billy (9.5 on IMDb), is one of Stranger Things’s most emotional and inspiring chapters. It was in Dear Billy that we thought we would lose Max, and again in this episode, we gained her back.
Fans noted the excellent acting performed by Sadie Sink, the severe trauma that she experiences, and the great dialogue of the episode. Dear Billy has everything you need from Stranger Things, friends sticking together, horror elements that push you over the edge of your seat, stellar acting, and powerful music.
3. The Upside Down
The show’s final episode of the 1st season is also one of the best Stranger Things episodes. This episode has a 9.3 score on the website and is loved by fans mostly because it brings a satisfying conclusion to the events of the season. We see Eleven sacrificing herself to save her friends, but we also get hopeful at the end when we see Hopper leaving Eggos in the forest (possibly for Eleven). Season 1 final is full of sentimental moments equipped with, once again, incredible performances.

4. The Gate
The season finales of Stranger Things are usually the best of the entire season, as Season 2’s episode 9 also suggests. Called “The Gate,” the episode has a 9.3 rating on IMDb, with viewers saying the episode balances perfectly the suspense and the drama with a few laughs and happy moments. Everything is resolved in the season finale; the gate to the Upside Down is closed, thanks mainly to Eleven, the Hawkins lab is shut down, and Eleven is now Hopper’s daughter. What else could there be?
5. The Battle Of Starcourt
The last episode on our list with a high IMDb score (9.2) is “The Battle of Starcourt,” the final episode of Season 3. Although the 3rd season is usually considered the worst season of Stranger Things, its season final took everything back to where they were supposed to be. Most fans were shocked and saddened by Hopper’s death, at least what we thought was his death. The episode also had the fantastic character improvement of Billy, who went from being a total jerk to sacrificing himself for his sister and friends.
