1883 Season 1 has come to an end with a very striking season finale that emotionally damaged us. When our tears stopped and we realized that it will take months for the 1883 Season 2 to come, our sorrow tippled and we are upset since then. After Yellowstone, 1883 has been a fresh breath of air that we couldn’t take our eyes from.
It is true that we have been obsessed with Yellowstone for the past four years. However, we never knew that we would love yet another series within the same universe just as much, up until the release of 1883. Originally, we thought 6666 will be the one that will be released immediately after 1883, which will create an endless marathon of series that take place within the Yellowstone universe. However, things didn’t go as we hoped and now, we are obliged to be patient until the new season of 1883 comes.
1883 Season 1 Ending Explained!
Before exploring when to expect the new season of 1883, let’s revisit the season finale of the show and see what had happened. During the last few episodes of the show, we have witnessed a series of mostly upsetting events that were all revolving around Elsa, the daughter of the Duttons and the main protagonist of the show. Since the series was also a coming-of-age story of Elsa, we saw her getting mature and growing up by experiencing a lifetime of incidents within only six months.
Her real tragedy started when Ennis, her lover whom she planned to marry, got killed by a bandit at the most unexpected moment. She took her revenge by killing the bandit, which caused her to fall into the endless spiral of grief and remorse all at the same time. With the support of her friends and family, she returned back to life and even fell in love again, this time with a Native American man named Sam. Their relationship was brief but intense.
Within a few days, they expressed their love for each other and even got married. Unfortunately, though, Elsa had to leave Sam since she felt obliged to go with her family to Oregon. But she promised to return once her family is settled.
Expectedly, things did not go as smoothly as she planned. Because of a misunderstanding, they got attacked by a Native American tribe, which caused Elsa to be injured deadly. For two long episodes, they tried to save her, but their efforts were in vain. In the end, everyone, including Elsa herself, made peace with the fact that she will die. She wanted to be buried in a place she chose and her choice was a tree in the mountains of Montana.
She made her father promise that they will settle there, near her, and James accepted it. This marked the end of Elsa’s journey and the start of Yellowstone’s history. It is interesting to think about the link between Elsa and Yellowstone since, in a way, she is the reason why that land is so precious for the Duttons and why they would prefer to die rather than lose their ranch.
1883 Season 2 Details!
Now, as you can see, with the death of Elsa, we reached a point where 1883 has no protagonist. Of course, there are James and Margeret, but their stories were not as on the front as Elsa’s. Therefore, we expect the entire narrative of the show to be changed in the upcoming season. Since most of the side characters, including Shea, are dead and the rest are spread across the U.S., we believe 1883 Season 2 will have a brand new cast of characters that are candidates to become the new leads of the series. Currently, there is no confirmation of 1883 Season 2.
However, if it is being confirmed, we expect it to be released around December 2022 with a trailer that hits the internet on November 2022. That being said, since we already know there will be yet another prequel to Yellowstone, titled 1932, there is the possibility that this new show will act as the 2nd season of 1883. In other words, 1883 might be done for now and continue with a new series that takes place 50 years after, which would be sad since we are very curious about what will happen to James and Margeret.
