The Walking Dead is in the midst of its final season that returned on the 13th of February. The show will release a few more episodes every week however it is not clear when the show’s final episodes will air in 2022. The huge fan base of the series is excited, impatient, as they should be, and upset because their favorite show is ending.
However, the creators of The Walking Dead announced in the past few months that there will be other tv shows that will take place in the same universe. For example, there will be a spin-off series that will follow the characters Daryl and Carol (played by Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride), whose friendship and loyalty to each other have been one of the best storylines in the series.
It was also announced that there will be an anthology series called Tales of The Walking Dead, and a movie on, arguably the show’s best character, Rick Grimes. Still, we have some time until the final episodes of The Walking Dead are released. So, we made a list for the fans of the show who want to watch similar series. Here is the list of tv shows that are similar to The Walking Dead that the fans of the show will love and enjoy.
1. Z Nation (2014-2018)
Z Nation is a show about a zombie apocalypse with an excessive dose of humor added to it. The series follows a few heroes who try to transport someone named Murphy (Keith Allan) who is the only survivor of a zombie bite, from New York to California where the last remaining research lab is located. However, Murphy is a pain in the ass who is really difficult to travel with. Though the show had a low budget, it still had some nice action sequences that were worth watching.
Z Nation was a five-season long series and its last episode was released in December 2018. The show is not coming back for another season but it has a prequel called Black Summer which shows the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. All seasons of Z Nation are available on Netflix.

2. Van Helsing (2016-2021)
Van Helsing is a show set in a post-apocalyptic world that follows Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) who wakes up from a coma and finds herself in a world ruled by vampires. She has a unique type of blood that allows her to turn vampires back into humans, so she is humanity’s last hope. This power makes her the main target of vampires so she is in need of protection. She is protected by a marine (Alex Miller) and a doctor (Rukiya Bernard). Together with the help of these two, Vanessa resists vampires.
Van Helsing has a total of 5 seasons that ended in 2021. Unfortunately, Van Helsing will not be coming back for future seasons. The series first aired on Syfy but all seasons are available to watch on Netflix.

3. Black Summer (2019- )
As we mentioned above Black Summer is a prequel to Z Nation that portrays the beginning of a zombie apocalypse. No character from Z Nation is actually seen in Black Summer. The main character Rose (played by gorgeous Jamie King) loses her daughter six weeks after the zombie apocalypse starts. With a group of refugees in North America, Rose tries to find her daughter while continuing to endure the hardships of the apocalypse.
The first season of the show aired in 2019, and the second in 2021. The series has a total of 16 episodes, all of which can be watched on Netflix.
4. The Magicians (2015-2020)
Another series that aired on Syfy, The Magicians was a fantasy drama show that had 5 seasons. The protagonist Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) enrolls at a university that is specialized in magic where he finds out that the magical world he had read in his childhood years is real and actually poses a real danger to humanity. On the other hand, his friend Julia (Stella Maeve) is denied entry to the same university so she has to find other ways to perform magic.
All 5 seasons of The Magicians are available on Netflix US however they are not available in countries like the UK or Turkey. Though the show’s episodes (a total of 65) can be purchased on Prime Video.

5. The Final Show Similar to The Walking Dead: Altered Carbon (2018-2020)
The fifth show we are going to recommend you watch before The Walking Dead Season 11 Part 2, is the Netflix show Altered Carbon. The series is set in the year 2384 and has a complicated plot but it is still an interesting series to watch. Takeshi Kovacs (played by Joel Kinnaman in the first season and Anthony Mackie in the second season) is the main protagonist of the series who is hired by a 300-year-old man who offers him a new chance at life under the condition of solving a murder (his own).
Kovacs’ stack- a device that includes a person’s memories and consciousness- is pulled out of prison by the Meth Laurens Bancroft (the 300-year-old man). The physical bodies are called sleeves and these stacks can be transported into new bodies after the sleeve’s death. That is how Kovacs wakes up in a new body at the beginning of the first episode.
Although quite different from The Walking Dead, Altered Carbon has the action and drama that would be enjoyed by The Walking Dead fans. The series had only 2 seasons, both can be streamed on Netflix.
