The 1st season of Kotaro Lives Alone was an emotional rollercoaster, both heartwarming and tragic. With more manga to be adapted, we are hoping Netflix will renew the series for Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2. Here is all we know so far about Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2 on Netflix.
Kotaro Lives Alone is a Japanese Netflix Original slice-of-life comedy animation based on Mami Tsumura’s manga series and we are expecting a Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2 soon.
The Shimizu Apartments have a new inhabitant in the shape of four-year-old Kotaro Sato. Kotaro goes shopping with his toy sword tied around his waist and despite his young age, Kotaro is smart beyond his years and begins to influence others around him as he demonstrates his ambition to live a solid life while longing for the day he may rejoin his parents.
We learned a lot about the unfortunate and heartbreaking events that led to Kotaro living by himself during the 1st season. Ignored by his parents, many of Kotaro’s amusing eccentricities were the consequence of earlier neglect or trauma, such as his affinity for tissues, which he had little option but to consume when he was left to fend for himself.
However, owing to Kotaro’s neighbor, Karino, the small child has had a continual attentive eye, and with each passing day, Karino grows fonder of the little kid and we are excited to see him in Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2.
Kotaro has many more modest adventures in his neighborhood ahead of him, but owing to Karino’s stunning revelation, Kotaro has yet to realize that his mother has died. While Kotaro’s father is still alive, he is abusive and has no contact with his son. Karino is now the closest thing Kotaro has to a family member in his life.
Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2
The status of the official renewal for Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2 is still pending, but we are not going to lose hope. Kotaro Lives Alone has been available for viewing on Netflix for quite some time but the streaming website has yet to confirm whether or not the anime has been extended. Unless otherwise specified, it is rare for an anime to be renewed on Netflix within the first few weeks, if not months, following its premiere.
Given the positive response from reviewers and subscribers, we fully expect Kotaro Lives Alone to be revived in the near future.
It should be mentioned that the anime has only made it into the top 10 of five Netflix regions. Notably, it has entered the top 10 list in Japan, where it peaked at third on March 13th.
If we believe that Kotaro Lives Alone has already been extended and that development on Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2 has already begun, we may see additional episodes by the end of the year or in early 2023.
However, if Liden Films is awaiting approval to film further episodes, anticipate seeing more of Kotaro in the spring or summer of 2023.

Kotaro Lives Alone Parents
The fate of his parents is revealed in bits and pieces over the season. In episode 6, for example, viewers learn that Kotaro’s father is looking for him and employs a private detective despite the restraining order. However, after spending time with Kotaro, the PI decides to give Kotaro’s father a separate location so as not to reveal Kotaro’s whereabouts. As a consequence, the fact that Kotaro’s father is still alive is revealed.
On the other side, it is revealed early in the episode that Kotaro’s monthly income comes from his mother’s insurance plan. This fact, however, is never revealed to Kotaro.
Furthermore, during the season finale, when Karino accompanies Kotaro to the cemetery to see the boy’s grandparents, Karino finds a grave that belongs to Kotaro’s mother. Despite this, he keeps it to himself, knowing that telling Kotaro the truth will crush his heart eventually.
Kotaro Lives Alone blends touching moments with a healthy dose of levity. Through the art of storytelling, it reveals essential real-life themes like abuse and neglect in the home, as well as diverse trauma recovery techniques. We are wondering what will happen in Kotaro Lives Alone Season 2.
