When a Gossip Girl reboot was announced a few years ago, we’re not going to lie and say we weren’t excited. To be honest, we didn’t really expect the reboot to be the same as the original one or the characters to have the same aura. Well, thank god we didn’t expect that because the reboot was not more than underwhelming. The show turned out to be a disappointment for many although there were still some people who said they were willing to give it more chance.
Set 8 years after the original series, a new cast plays Manhattan private schoolers. The story is not the direct continuation of the original one but it is set in the same world where our Queen B and her glitterati friends lived (and still do). The showrunner Joshua Safran even hinted that the previous characters might reappear.
Being released on HBO Max, the show’s 1st season appeared in 2021, the 1st episode in July, and the final episode in December. We know it’s been only a few months but that doesn’t mean we cannot worry about a season 2.

Well, let’s give the news straight away: there will be a 2nd season of Gossip Girl and what’s more, there is even a good chance that a 3rd season will be there also. The release date for Gossip Girl Season 2 is not definite, yet we are guessing that we will be seeing it sometime this year. Given that the renewal news came last September and the filming started in February, it is a really high chance that we’re going to get the show in the last months of 2022.

Is the Gossip Girl reboot any good? Well, the reviews and the audience scores don’t think so. Currently, the show has a 5.3 score on IMDB voted by 10K people, and a score of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes reviewed by more than 50 critics.
The viewership numbers tell the exact opposite as the series became HBO Max’s Number 1 debut of all time. The outlet also shared that many subscribers to the platform first watched the Gossip Girl reboot before streaming anything else. We believe this news shows the hype around the reboot, not its actual success. But the series can still be given a chance just to get a new glimpse into the Gossip Girl world we really missed.

Well, there are actually a lot of differences between the original Gossip Girl and the reboot and one of these is the diversity of the new cast members. As you remember, the original had mostly white and straight cast members with only a couple exceptions of side characters, like Vanessa. The reboot has much more diversity in representation. The new main cast has 3 people of color, one transgender, and one actor who defines himself as pansexual.
Another huge difference between the 2 shows is the revealing of Gossip Girl’s identity. As you know, we had to wait for 6 seasons to find out who GG was but in the reboot, you get to know her early on. It’s one of the teachers at the high school, Constance. This, we believe, definitely killed the suspense aspect of the show. If we already know who GG is, then what’s the point?
The other changing aspect of the show that we want to point out is the level of explicitness. Since the reboot is on HBO Max (and you know HBO is known for its high tolerance for nudity), there are much more scenes with explicit content and nudity.

However, Hulu has a service where it allows you to try out Hulu and HBO Max for a week for free. Since the show has only 12 episodes, 7 days will be enough time to finish all of it. Just don’t forget to set a reminder to cancel your subscription before those 7 days end and that’s it!
