The 1st Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon, is already loved by fans and critics alike. This is primarily due to the House of the Dragon characters and the cast members who breathe life into them. Especially Milly Alcock, with her character Rhaenyra, reminds viewers of Daenerys Targaryen, so a special bond has already been formed between fans of the show and the talented actress. Unfortunately, Alcock is among 4 actors who will be replaced after the 5th episode of the season since a time jump will require older-looking actors.
Another House of the Dragon cast member the show’s fans adored is Matt Smith, who plays the Targaryen prince Daemon. Luckily, the actor will not be replaced for the rest of the season. Not only these 2 but the rest of the House of the Dragon characters are loved by viewers, but of course, there might still be some viewers who couldn’t catch up with certain details of the characters. So, we’re here to relieve you of this stress and introduce the most important House of the Dragon characters.
Rhaenyra Targaryen
Rhaenyra Targaryen is the daughter of Viserys I, the King of Westeros. As it is evident, she belongs to the House of Targaryen. As her mother died while giving birth to Rhaenyra’s brother Baelon, who also died minutes later, Viserys named Rhaenyra as his heir to the Iron Throne. This meant that Viserys did not choose his brother, Daemon, as his heir, which started a crisis of succession as Daemon thought the Iron Throne was his right.
In the 2nd half of the 1st season of the Game of Thrones spin-off, the beloved character will be played by Emma D’Arcy.
Daemon Targaryen
We talked about Daemon above, but he is one of the most important characters in the series, so he’s worth mentioning once more. He is the brother of King Viserys I, therefore, the uncle of Rhaenyra. Daemon feels he should be the next king since his brother does not have a male heir. The Iron Throne has never seen a woman ruler before, so Daemon and many others don’t consider Rhaenyra a true contender. So, when Viserys names Rhaenyra as his heir, Daemon is pissed.
Alicent Hightower
Alicent Hightower is among the House of the Dragon characters whose actor will change in the 2nd half of the season. Right now, she is portrayed by Emily Carey, but Olivia Cooke will play her after the 5th episode. As her family name suggests, Alicent is from the House Hightower. Her father Otto is Hand to King Viserys I. He encourages Alicent to get close to the king after the King loses his wife. Alicent has to follow his father’s orders, which she does. She starts chatting with the King, and the King seems to grow fond of her.

Corlys Velaryon
House Velaryon is another strong house in the Game of Thrones spin-off. They are one of the oldest houses in Westeros, and its current lord is Corlys Velaryon. Corlys is the King’s Master of Ships and is married to Viserys’ cousin, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. In the 2nd episode of the series, Corlys and Rhaenys propose a marriage alliance to Viserys by asking him to marry their 12-year-old daughter. After considering the offer, Viserys decides to marry Alicent, which starts a coalition between Corlys and Daemon. Steve Toussaint portrays Corlys.
Viserys I
The best example of a good man but a bad king is Viserys I, who makes bad decisions one after the other. He is a Targaryen king whose only heir is a woman, so marrying again is his duty. Marrying the daughter of the House Valeryon would be a great benefit for his kingdom since the Valeryons are quite powerful. But Viserys chooses to go with his heart and wants to marry Alicent, the results of which will not be good for sure. Paddy Considine portrays Viserys.
Criston Cole
The last of the House of the Dragon characters on our list is Criston Cole, whom we met in the series premiere when he defeated Daemon in the tournament. In the 2nd episode, he is chosen as a new member of the King’s Guard by Rhaenyrs. Criston is a common-born, as his father is a steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. House Cole is still called a noble house, but they are looked down upon. Fabien Frankel plays Criston Cole.
