After what felt like an eternity, Outlander Season 6 finally arrived on March 6, 2022, and we were able to witness Jamie and Claire’s captivating story. Is Outlander Season 6 the best season ever? In this article, we’ve ranked each Outlander season by its Rotten Tomatoes rating. Let’s get started!
1. Outlander Season 2
Season 2 seems to be the fans’ favorite season, as shown by the Rotten Tomatoes rating, which is 92% among both critics and viewers.
Based on the content of the second book in the series, Dragonfly in Amber, Season 2 follows Claire and Jamie as they arrive in France to infiltrate the Jacobite rebellion and prevent the Battle of Culloden. Knowing what lies ahead, they must prevent a doomed Highland rebellion and the destruction of Scottish life as they know it.
The last episode of the season is considered one of the best episodes of the series with a thrilling plot that kept us glued to our seats. As you probably remember, in this episode Brianna found out that her biological father is Jamie and not Frank.
2. Outlander Season 1
Season 1 is one of the most popular seasons of Outlander, as it scores 91% on the Tomatometer and 93% among viewers. It seems that fans like the 1st season more than the 2nd, but critics voted for Season 2.
Nevertheless, we’ve to admit that Season 1 is the ultimate for us, because it introduced us to the Outlander universe. The 1st season is based on the first book of the series and revolves around Claire, who travels back in time from 1945 to 1743, where she meets Jamie and is forced to marry him.
“The Devil’s Mark” is considered one of the best episodes of Season 1, as it follows Claire as she’s confronted with the realities of the 18th century, such as the social situation of women.

3. Outlander Season 3
Season 3 is ranked 3rd on our list, as measured by its rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The season has 93% among viewers and 90% among critics.
Claire returns to her life in 1948 in Outlander Season 3 after traveling through the stones. Jamie is still dealing with the aftermath of his fateful last stand at Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. Claire’s heart is filled with renewed hope as she contemplates returning to Jamie in the past.
The 4th episode of Season 3, “Of Lost Things,” is considered the best episode of the season with a rating of 9.3 on IMDb. In the episode, Claire, Brianna and Roger research Jamie’s whereabouts in 1968. Meanwhile, Geneva threatens Jamie with his family to get him. Eventually, they’ve sex that ends with the birth of Willie.
4. Outlander Season 4
The rating of Outlander Season 4 is a bit lower than the other seasons, with 84% among viewers and 88% among critics.
Claire and Jamie try to build a home in colonial America in Season 4. Although Claire is aware of the impending American Revolution, they must contend with her fragile devotion to the current British ruling elite as they build their life together in the harsh and dangerous backcountry of North Carolina.
Episode 9, “The Birds and The Bees,” is the fan-favorite episode of Season 4, as it’s a 9.1 rating on IMDb. The episode follows Brianna as she focuses on finding her parents while struggling to deal with the anxiety she experienced after the tragedy in Wilmington.
5. Outlander Season 6
The last season of Outlander hit screens recently, but apparently it hasn’t managed to become the fans’ favorite yet. Unfortunately, the season, which includes 8 episodes, had to be shortened due to Caitirona Balfe’s pregnancy and the COVID -19 pandemic. It was rated 88% by critics and 75% by viewers.
In Season 6, Claire and Jamie’s struggle to protect those they love continues as they endure the hardships and difficulties of life in colonial America.
The 6th episode, “The World Turned Upside Down,” which is about a dysentery epidemic that spreads on the Ridge and makes Claire fatally ill, has become a fan favorite with a rating of 8.2 on IMDb.
6. Outlander Season 5
Season 5 has the lowest ranking among the other seasons of Outlander, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It was rated 88% by viewers and 86% by critics.
The Frasers are fighting for their family and home on Fraser’s Ridge in the 5th season of Outlander, which picks up from the 4th season. Jamie must find a way to defend what he’s built in America, as well as the people who rely on his leadership and protection – all while keeping his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons a secret. Claire Fraser must use her current medical expertise and acumen to keep her family from being torn apart for the second time.
According to the IMDb rating of 9.2, Episode 7, “The Ballad of Roger Mac,” is the most popular episode of the season, revolving around the rebellion of the Regulator reaching a boiling point.
