We cannot believe it has been almost 4 years since Crazy Rich Asians hit theatres and received stellar reviews from many critics, and since then, most people want Crazy Rich Asians 2 to happen. The first movie quickly became a summer hit and went out to earn more than 200 million dollars worldwide. So, it was only reasonable for Warner Bros to confirm that the movie would have a sequel, and that is what they did.
Considering the first movie was based on the first novel of the Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy, the sequel to the first movie is expected to be based on the second book in the series, China Rich Girlfriend. However, after a long wait, fans want to know the fate of the sequel, rightly wondering when or if it will come out. That is why we have dug into the issue and found out the details for you. Here is everything you need to know about Crazy Rich Asians 2, from its release date and trailer to its cast and book series.
When does Crazy Rich Asians 2 come out?
Unfortunately, as of now, there is no confirmed date for Crazy Rich Asians 2. When there was an announcement in 2018 regarding the confirmation for two sequels, there was also another announcement saying that the two movies would be shot back-to-back in 2020. However, due to many reasons, including the pandemic, the shooting for the movies has been delayed a few times.
Some sources even say that the shooting was delayed because of the cast members’ other shooting schedules since some of them became really famous after the movie and went out to earn big roles in other productions. So, we do not exactly know even when they will shoot the movie and on the IMDB page of the China Rich Girlfriend, it is seen that the movie is still in pre-production. The movie is not even shot yet, so we should not raise our hopes for the sequel to be released this year.
Is Crazy Rich Asians on Netflix?
Crazy Rich Asians is available on Netflix only in certain European and Asian countries. For instance, it is not available in countries like the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. These are the countries where the movie can be streamed on Netflix: Belgium, Germany, France, Turkey, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, India, Hungary, and Slovakia.
The reason for that could be the movie director and author’s initial rejection of Netflix which offered a huge amount of money to release the movie on its platform. The author of the books Kevin Kwan and the director of the movie Jon M. Chu wanted the movie to be shown in theatres rather than at home on computers or televisions.
Crazy Rich Asians book
If you want to learn what is going to happen in the sequel, you can read the book series because the first film actually followed the storyline of the first book. The series consists of three books, the first one shares the name with the movie. The second novel, which we already talked about above, is called China Rich Girlfriend and follows the story of our main character Rachel (played by Constance Wu) on the eve of her wedding to her fiancé Nick (Henry Golding).
Rachel is sad that her father, whom she never met, will not be at her wedding to walk her down the aisle. The tides turn around when Rachel finds out about his father’s identity… And the third book is called Rich People Problems and it gives a conclusion to the story, about which we do not want to give any spoilers.
Crazy Rich Asians cast
One of the reasons why the movie received much attention and success was its incredible cast and one of the pieces of information we know about the sequel is that the main characters we loved will be returning! It would be a big surprise if the main cast members like Constance Wu (Rachel), Henry Golding (Nick), Gemma Chan (Astrid), Awkwafina (Peik Lin), and Michelle Yeoh (Eleanor) to not come back.
Nothing is certain yet, but we believe that these cast members will return for Crazy Rich Asians 2 for sure!
As for a trailer, there is not an existing trailer for the second movie since it is not even shot yet. But we are sharing with you the trailer for the first movie, for those who want to remember what was going on in the movie.
