After an 8-episode-long season 2 in 2021, we were wondering just as you are if the City on a Hill Season 3 would see the daylight anytime soon. As an American crime drama created by Charlie MacLean and based on a story by Ben Affleck and MacLean, the series was picked up by Showtime. Only a few weeks after Season 1, Showtime renewed the show for a 2nd season. Now, let’s see what’s the news around the possibility of a City on a Hill Season 3.
Before going into the details surrounding the show’s future, we should look at what City on a Hill is about. The show is set in 1993 when an assistant district attorney teams up with a corrupt venerated FBI veteran to take on a case that changes Boston’s criminal justice system. A partnership of opposite characters that does not seem to work in the first instance works well in the 1st season but the relationship between the pair gets shattered in Season 2 when the ADA suspects the former agent’s involvement in the death of an assistant US attorney.
City on a Hill Season 3
Luckily for the followers of the show, City on a Hill was renewed for a 3rd season right after the 2nd season aired. The trailer for Season 3 was dropped a few weeks ago by Showtime. What’s interesting to see in the trailer is that it looks like Kevin Bacon’s character, the veteran FBI agent we were talking about, is on the way to redemption. We see him questioning his decisions and trying to figure out how he ended up where he is. To be honest, we never thought the corrupt man could change but it seems he is on that path.
City on a Hill Season 3 will air on Showtime every Sunday starting July 10 until August 28. This season will have the same amount of episodes (8) as the previous season.

City on a Hill Reviews
The series has generally favorable reviews as the show’s Season 1 received a score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. Another review aggravator website Metacritic gave the series a score of 65 out of 100. As for the audience score, the series currently has 7.5 points on IMDB based on 11K votes.
Most of the reviews for the show’s 1st season, well for the 1st 3 episodes of the 1st season (since only the 1st 3 were available for review), are positive and welcoming. The reviews say that the show’s fun, ambitious, never boring, and always engaging. Of course, the acting performances of the City on a Hill cast are also praised highly.
However, there is also some negative criticism directed at the series, which is especially about how the show’s concept does not really seem original and fresh. One reviewer for instance pointed out how the show feels like something we’ve seen before and one other said that it’s generic and cliché. Nevertheless, despite the negative reviews the overall consensus seems to be that although the show’s premise doesn’t seem to be that original, it is well executed and has superb acting.
