Anikulapo, an intriguing film by Kunle Afolayan, begins in the middle, but Anikulapo cast manages to tell an amazing tale. It’s a basic plot that incorporates a lot of cultures, as well as moral teachings on pride, greed, deceit, and shattered trust, among other things, and the film depicts the Yorubas in the 17th century in vivid detail, including how welcome they were, their polygamous marital pattern, artistic talents, and traditional folklore and customs.
The film opens in the most intriguing way conceivable, with a dead Saro being brought back to life by the Akala Bird, a fabled bird claimed to possess the ability of resurrection, and according to the narrator, if someone dies prematurely, the Akala bird resurrects them with its divine capacity. Yet, if the person’s time has come, the bird permits them to pass to the great beyond, and Saro’s attempt to explain to this bird the reason for his death offers us what appears to be the tale.
