Aftersun, the feature film debut of Charlotte Wells, garnered much attention upon its release in November 2022. The film received positive reviews for Wells’ direction and screenplay and was named one of the best films of 2022 by some critics. The Aftersun cast also received much praise, with Paul Mescal’s outstanding performance in particular. Both Aftersun and Wells and the cast have won numerous awards to date, including two prizes at the Cannes Film Festival, several British Independent Film Awards and a Gotham Independent Film Award.
Set in the late 1990s, the film revolves around an 11-year-old Scottish girl named Sophie who goes on vacation with her father to a Turkish resort on the eve of his 31st birthday. The film focuses on the relationship between a daughter and her young parent and consists of “emotionally autobiographical” elements, as the creator of the film says. Paul Mescal

Paul Mescal is a 26-year-old Irish actor who plays the role of Calum Paterson, Sophie’s troubled 30-year-old Scottish father, in Aftersun. The up-and-coming actor is best known for his starring role in the miniseries Normal People, for which he received critical acclaim anda British Academy Television Award and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. He made his feature film debut in 2021 in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s psychological drama A Lost Daughter. Mescal has appeared in films such as God’s Creature and Carmen. He has also recently starred in two other films, Foe and Strangers, which are currently in post-production.
Mescal has been dating singer Phoebe Bridgers since 2020.
Frankie Corio

Frankie Corio is a 12-year-old child actress who is in the Aftersun cast, playing Sophie, an 11-year-old girl who goes on a summer vacation to Turkey with her father. The film is Corio’s debut, but given her outstanding performance, it seems that she’ll be seen on the big screen more often in the future. She even stars in the upcoming film The Bagman.

Celia Rowlson Hall

Celia Rowlson Hall is a dancer, choreographer and film director who stars in Aftersun as the adult version of Sophie. She has worked as a choreographer for film and television, collaborating with directors such as Gaspar Noe and Lena Dunham. As an actress, she has appeared in films such as Ma, A Morning Light and Valencia. The versatile actress has also directed several short films and videos.

Spike Fearn
Spike Fearn as Olly
Spike Fearn is a 16-year-old aspiring actor who plays Olly in Aftersun. The young actor made his debut in 2019 with The Love Europe Project. In 2021, he starred in the films The Amazing Mr. Blunden and Sweetheart. He then catapulted his career with his role as Vandal in The Batman (2022). Fearn also appeared in the TV series Tell Me Everything, Newark, Newark and Sneakerhead.
Unfortunately, there is no concrete information about the actor’s relationship status.
Sally Messham

Sally Messham is also part of Aftersun cast with her role as Belinda in the film. The actress made her debut in 2015 with her appearance in the TV series Midwinter of the Spirit. Since then, the rising actress has appeared in three other TV series, Sherwood, Doc Martin and The Miniaturist. Feature films in which Messham has appeared include Artemis Fowl, Our Ladies and Allied. She’s currently working on two new projects: Blitz and The Hunt for Raoul Moat.
