What is After Life about?
The show is following a guy named Tony who recently lost his wife due to a bitter illness and then lost interest in living as his life became meaningless. So far in the show, we watched him go through multiple emotional ups and downs as he struggles to hold on to life. Through his journey, the show explores many philosophical questions such as the meaning of life, the existence of the afterlife, being good or bad, and the substance of human experience.
And yet, don’t be fooled by how serious and upsetting all these sounds. Yes, at times, the show makes you cry with its deep handling of the grief and the struggles of keeping on living. However, other times, it makes you laugh out loud to the point that this time you are shedding happy tears. Somehow, After Life manages to combine both worlds and come up with a story that is universal and can be appreciated by anyone around the globe.

Is After Life Cancelled?
Expectedly, the Netflix audience knows the show deserves the best and thus has constantly hyped the show on social media, making it one of the most popular series on the platform ever. With great popularity comes great expectations, meaning that whenever one season of the show wraps up, fans immediately question the release date of the next one.
Unfortunately, though, this time we might not get an answer for when to expect After Life Season 4 since Gervais announced the show came to an end with the 3rd season.
When he is asked why he refuses to come up with the 4th season, Gervais said in an interview recently that against all odds, he prefers to end the story here merely because it is the perfect ending in his opinion.
“I know for a fact I could, But the reason I said it is the end is so I’d be bullied and made fun of for going back on it. It’s a no-brainer I should do a fourth [season], I should do it in terms of economics and the audience would love it, everything points towards it except would series four be as good as the first three and better because it’s no good for it to be just as good? I don’t want it to outstay its welcome,” he said.

Gervais has become a household name with his leading role in the Office U.K., and since then he had been in multiple projects apart from his standup shows. However, none of his projects so far had more than 2 seasons, showing how much he values After Life. Still, it seems like he is determined not to continue the series even further since in his opinion, the story has come to an end. Knowing how much Netflix values its hit shows, we find it hard to believe that the platform will let go of After Life this easily though.

Therefore, we believe there is still a chance for After Life to make an epic return to the platform and shock us all. If that happens for real, we expect After Life Season 4 to be released in the winter of 2023 while the trailer of the show will probably hit the internet towards the end of Fall 2023. Either way, we know that we will not miss out on the 4th season of this highly beloved series.
