1. Players

The 2022 dark comedy is about two women, a mother and a daughter, who decide to take revenge on the daughter’s erratic alcoholic husband who regularly beats her up. The film, starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew, was showered with praise by critics for its plot and the performances of the cast. The film also received more than 10 million views in its opening weekend, the highest audience for an Indian film not made in English.

3. Sooryavanshi
Sooryavanshi is a 2021 action film directed by Rohit Shetty. It’s the fourth installment of Shetty’s Cop Universe and Akshay Kumar plays ATS chief DCP Veer Sooryavanshi in it. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh briefly reprise their roles in Singham and Simmba from the Cop Universe. The film follows a Mumbai police officer who pulls out all the stops to ensure that the conspiracy planning to attack his city is intercepted. It became the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2021 and the 47th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
4. RRR
RRR is one of the Bollywood movies which is one of a kind, with its unique storyline. Set in 1920, the epic action film revolves around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), and their struggle against the British Raj, also known as the Crown’s rule in India. The story follows the undocumented period in their lives when the two revolutionaries decided to go dark before beginning the fight for their country.
The film immediately received worldwide acclaim for its cast, soundtrack, action sequences, direction and screenplay. It was also nominated in three categories at the 47th Saturn Awards, including Best Action/Adventure Film, Best International Film and Best Director.
5. Aśoka
When we talk about the best Bollywood movies, we can’t leave out Aśoka. This2001 epic historical drama follows the early life of Emperor Asoka of the Maurya dynasty, who ruled most of the Indian subcontinent in the 3rd century BC. Famous actor Shah Rukh Khan stars in the film. The film was selected for the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews. It also became the 4th highest-grossing film of 2001. If you’re interested in Indian history, Aśoka is a visual and narrative treat you won’t want to miss.
6. Chennai Express
The last film on our list of the best Bollywood movies is the action comedy Chennai Express from 2013. It’s another work by the well-known director Rohit Shetty and in it Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of a man who accidentally boards the Chennai Express and travels from Mumbai to Rameswaram with the daughter of a local don, played by Deepika Padukone, to bury the ashes of his late grandfather. Upon its release, the film became the highest-grossing Bollywood film worldwide, surpassing 3 Idiots. It also received numerous nominations for its actors and director.
