The HBO/Universal Television co-production is a historic story that portrays the billionaire giants of New York City in the 1880s.

The Gilded Age TV drama, which airs on HBO, was developed by Julian Fellowes and stars Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Denée Benton, Louisa Jacobson, and many others. The Gilded Age’s first season averages a 0.05 rating in the 18-49 age and 568,000 watchers in live+same day statistics. While these figures do not account for additional delayed or streamed watching statistics, they are a decent measure of how a program is doing, particularly in comparison to others on the same broadcaster.

Will there be the Gilded Age Season 2?

HBO’s Gilded Age is far from done yet and is going strong. The period drama from Downton Abbey director Julian Fellowes has been confirmed for a second season by the streaming service, weeks before the season finale airs. The fact that the second season has been confirmed in the middle of the road shows the show’s success.

That narrative begins in 1882, against the backdrop of the eponymous historical epoch, a time of economic, social, and industrial revolution. Disagreements between old-money socialites and new money counterparts are escalating among Manhattan’s rich elite. It’s too soon to determine when the second season will be published, but the season 1 end will run on March 21.

The Gilded Age Cast

After her father’s death in 1882, little Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) moves from rural Pennsylvania to New York City to live with her fully old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon).

Marian, supported by Peggy Scott (Denée Benton), an aspiring writer looking for a clean slate, unwittingly becomes embroiled in a sociocultural war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her staggeringly rich residents, a brutal railroad tycoon and his audacious wife, George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon). When confronted with a world on the verge of modernity, would Marian follow the established norms of society or carve her own path?

Audra McDonald, Kelli O’Hara, Debra Monk, Nathan Lane, and others round out the cast and guest appearances. Because Broadway was closed during COVID, when the well-known show was recorded, the company was able to cast so many theater performers.

When was the Gilded Age?

The term “Gilded Age” refers to the period between roughly 1870 and 1910, when America’s economy was growing as a result of the development of transcontinental railways, as well as the oil and metal industries. This was the era of the robber barons when entrepreneurs like John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and Andrew Mellon used these expanding industries (along with the emergence of the stock market) to carve out large monopolies and immense riches.

In New York City, these guys bought real estate, gave large sums of money to organizations, and helped shape the city into what it is today. But, for all that the Gilded Age glittered, it was also a time of great injustice.

The wealth divide was enormous, and many of these civilizations were based on the labor of impoverished manufacturing employees, who occasionally included abused children.

However, HBO’s The Gilded Age concentrates on the highest levels of New York society, where a social conflict was developing between the city’s old money and the social climbers who were flooding the city with their riches.
