What is Severance Apple About?
Apple TV’s outstanding drama Severance is set in a disturbing Lumon Industries office and follows employees who have their personal memories deleted on a regular basis. One day, a group of Lumon Macrodata Refinement Department employees rebels against the company in order to expose its sinister intents and regain their lives. Mark Scout, who was recently fired and replaced by a woman, begins to reflect on the company’s mistreatment and leads an act of revolt, which is supported by his colleagues.
Severance is created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle. It combines numerous genres, including dystopia, science fiction, mystery, and psychological drama, with a sprinkle of dark comedy. The series is worth watching because of the allusions it holds as well as the well-crafted plot. Severance illustrates how difficult it is for people who work for an exploitive corporation to maintain a work-life balance. It is a critique of the capitalist system, which depicts the oppressive life of office workers in a dystopian way.
A number of well-known actors and actresses appear in the main cast of Severance: Adam Scott as Mark Scout, Zach Cherry as Dylan George, Britt Lower as Helly Riggs, Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick, and Dichen Lachman as Ms. Casey.
Is Severance Based On a Book?
No. A Chinese-American author, Ling Ma, wrote a novel with the same name which was published in 2018. However, the Apple TV series Severance is not based on this novel; their stories are way different. The novel is set in an alternate timeline in which a fictional pandemic known as Shan Fever, caused by fungal illness, breaks out.
On the other hand, Apple TV announced that a tell-all story will be released on AppleBooks, shedding light on the sinister Lumon Company’s hidden secrets, being disclosed by a whistleblower who risks losing everything. Meddling with the corporation’s secrets is similar to falling down a rabbit hole. Thus, there are a slew of jaw-dropping revelations about Lumon Company, uncovered by a brave woman who refuses to keep silent any longer.
The free book was published under the name of Severance: The Lexington Letter on March 19, when there were still three episodes to go until the season finale. Just like the show itself, the book as a side content was positively welcomed by readers and fans of Severance.
