South Korean dramas are all the rage these days, especially on Netflix. There are quite a few remarkable kdramas on the streaming platform, from Business Proposal to Thirty Nine; and we love them all. In this article, however, we’re going to talk about a fairly new one: My Liberation Notes. Fans are already wondering if there will be My Liberation Notes Season 2, although it hasn’t been long since the series premiered. Will there though, be a 2nd season of the South Korean series?
Starring Lee Min-ki, Kim Ji-won, Son Seok-koo and Lee El, My Liberation Notes started airing on JTBC on April 9. The series consists of a total of 16 episodes and is a slice-of-life, meaning it depicts the everyday experiences of some ordinary characters using the technique of realism. The realistic and compelling story of the show was one of the reasons why it was praised by critics and viewers, not to mention the dialogs and monologs with deep metaphorical meanings that took place in the show. The series also deals with the concept of “liberation” while highlighting social pressures in South Korea. Let’s get right to the latest news about My Liberation Notes Season 2 without much ado!
My Liberation Notes Season 2
Unfortunately, we don’t have any certain information on whether or not there will be a My Liberation Notes Season 2. It’s been barely two weeks since the season finale aired on May 29, 2022, so it’s still too early to announce a renewal.
Still, we think it’s unlikely that My Liberation Notes will be renewed for a 2nd season. There are two reasons why we don’t believe there will be another season of the series. First, we don’t think the series is as popular as other South Korean series on Netflix, although it’s attracted attention and been watched worldwide. It was rated 8.4 on IMDb and ended up in the top ten on Netflix, but even so, it may not have attracted as much attention as the original broadcaster of the series expected.
The second reason is that we believe the story came to an end in the season finale. The episode was quite conclusive and satisfying as most of the characters in the series overcame their problems and achieved their liberation, such as Mi-Jeong, Chang-Hee, and Gu. Also, most of the kdramas on Netflix are planned as limited series, so they only have 1 season, which means that My Liberation Notes may be one of them. Therefore, we believe that there will be no My Liberation Notes Season 2. But who knows, maybe the characters’ stories will continue in a new season that deals with the aftermath of the events of Season 1. We’ll see.
