Madam Secretary Season 7 Release Date, Trailer - Is it Canceled?

The 6th season of Madam Secretary came out in October 2019 and yet Madam Secretary Season 7 hasn’t been released. The show’s 1st season was released in 2014 and it was successfully going on until the season final of the 6th season. Although the Madam Secretary’s 1st 5 seasons had more than 20 episodes per season, Season 6 only had 10 episodes, a major change for the show. What does this tell us?

The series is an American political drama that stars Tea Leoni as Elizabeth McCord, a political scientist, and a former analyst in the CIA, who becomes the Secretary of State. We witness her trying to balance her personal life and work. For the 1st 5 seasons, McCord manages to stay in the position of the Secretary of State, and at the end of Season 5, she announces that she is running for president. In Season 6, she wins the election and becomes the 1st female president of the United States.

Season 6 ended right when Elizabeth became the president and was doing a great job, and left us hopelessly waiting for Season 7. Let’s find out if there is going to be a Madam Secretary Season 7 and if not, why?

A few months after the release of the 5th season of the show, Madam Secretary was renewed for a 10-episode-long final season, which premiered in October 2019 and ended in December of the same year. The reasons for the cancellation were manifold. One reason for instance was the decrease in ratings. According to viewership reports, the 1st season premiere of Madam Secretary was watched by 14 million people whereas the Season 5 premiere was watched by 6 million people.

Some people, especially on social media, interpreted the sudden end of the series as a sign for a spinoff series based on Madam President.

This seems rather unlikely because we already saw Elizabeth becoming Madam President and as also discussed in this tweet, CBS would not pay tons of money just to rebrand a series that it canceled already.

Madam Secretary was a brilliant show. So can’t there be a follow on of Madam President which I think could be an awesome subject.
