Since 2019, however, everyone wondered if we would ever see Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker again since everyone was impressed by his phenomenal performance. Fans anticipated seeing him in The Batman (2022) alongside Robert Pattinson. That did not happen.
The studio never refused the idea of Phoenix reprising the role in a future film but remained silent until a week ago. Here is everything we know about the possibility of Joker 2, including Joaquin Phoenix.

A week ago, the director and co-writer of the 2019 film Todd Phillips shared a post on Instagram which showed a screenplay cover with the title Joker: Folie à Deux. Another photo shows Joaquin Phoenix reading the same screenplay in the same post. So, not only did we learn that Joker 2 is coming out with Todd Phillips and Scott Silver returning as the writers and Phoenix playing Joker, but we also learned the movie’s working title.
Folie à Deux is a French term meaning “folly of 2” or “madness by 2” and refers to a syndrome called shared psychosis or shared delusional disorder (SDD). In this syndrome, symptoms such as hallucinations or delusional beliefs are transmitted from one individual to another. This means that Joker will share a delusional bond with a person whose identity is unknown.
This person will probably be Harley Quinn, Joker’s love interest from the comics. Harley Quinn, who was essentially known as Harleen Quinzel, was a psychiatrist who ended up falling in love with him and losing her mind. She later joins Joker as his confidant and accomplice.
Lately, there have been many rumors that Harley Quinn’s role will be given life by none other than Lady Gaga, who had her share of Oscar nominations and made herself known for her extraordinary acting abilities. Nonetheless, this is not confirmed yet.
We know all of these are exciting news, but you are probably still wondering about Joker 2 release date. Of course, a specific date is not given but considering that the director is probably casting characters, there may still be some time for the filming to start. But if the filming begins in a few months, we expect the new movie to come out in late 2023.

We know that Joaquin Phoenix will reprise the role in the next Joker movie. In the latest Batman movie, however, in just one short scene, we saw that the character The Riddler was getting acquainted with a new friend confirmed by the director Matt Reeves to be the Joker. However, Reeves also explained that the character was yet to become the Joker in that scene. So, what we saw was just the beginning of his character ark. Barry Keoghan played the role, and you can see his incredible portrayal even from this short deleted scene. It is not sure if the actor will be reprising the role in future Batman films with Robert Pattinson.

For Heath Ledger’s scars, we get to hear 2 different stories about the origin of the scars: one is about his father, who was abusive and used a knife to scar the child Joker’s mouth. The other story is about his gambling in the past and how that caused his wife’s face to get carved by gambling sharks. Joker says he carved his mouth to support his wife, who ran away from him after he had done that.
