The animated series that is based on arguably the best game of all time is coming its 2nd season. Yes, you guessed it right: Arcane, which is adapted by League of Legends, will have Arcane Season 2 on Netflix soon. Well, after an amazing 1st season, we are not surprised to hear the news.
It’s been only a couple of months since Season 1, produced by the French company Fortiche, premiered on the streaming platform. However, the scale of positive reactions from the audience with the confirmation of Arcane Season 2 has been immense even before Season 1’s release was completed.
Is Arcane linked to League of Legends?
League of Legends fans already loves the show, as they were anticipating this release for so long. And yet, the gamers are not the only ones who like the series. On the contrary, many people who have never played League of Legends in their lives also enjoy the show, as it offers many interesting characters and an engaging plot that attracts a wide range of people.
“We’re beyond happy about the positive response to ‘Arcane’s’ 1st season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and [French animation studio] Fortiche to deliver our second installment,” series co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee said recently, announcing the coming of the 2nd season. It is expected from most of the cast, namely Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung, to be present in the 2nd season of the series as well.
The series is regarded as a prequel to the League of Legends, meaning that you don’t have to be familiar with the highly popular game to enjoy the show. The series was released in three parts, all of which had three episodes. So far, we got to watch the first two chapters. The series also has a specific value for being the first attempt of the Riot Games, which is the publisher of League of Legends, to open to the entertainment sector with TV series.
Will there be Arcane Season 2?
It is expected of the company to come up with more movies and shows in the future since Arcane proved to be successful already with Arcane Season 2 on its way. Once a Netflix executive, currently a Riot Games employee Shauna Spenley confirmed these ambitions of the company, saying that there will be “more to come,” and they will “step into live-action and other stories.”
Speaking to Los Angeles Times, Spenley continued with the following remarks: “I don’t think most of Hollywood realizes how massive this is. I think that we have a huge opportunity to build amazing organic stories inside of this world [of Runeterra], and for it to quietly build and become the IP that defines a generation. It’s going to take a little time.”
Arcane Season 2 Release Date
Riot Games is working on such a project since 2019 and desires the series to consist of multiple seasons, suggesting that the 2nd season will not be the end of the series. According to the creative designer of the Riot Games, Alex Yee, they have worked hard on the project.
“We did bring in writers and advisers from Hollywood to help us get the lay of the land. But we always found that the best results came from having a mix of people who had worked internally on the game, who had also played the game, and then people from the outside. It was always a goal for us to have the show be watchable and enjoyable for people on either side of that spectrum,” he told the Washington Post.
It is expected that Arcane Season 2 will be released in the Fall of 2022 with, again, 9 episodes, divided probably into three chapters. The number of chapters might increase depending on the audience’s reaction to having only 9 episodes per season. Regardless, we expect the series to gradually catch up with the League of legends plot-line and combine the two stories in the future.
