This insanely popular Netflix show, The Crown, follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II, from the moment she gets married to the Duke of Edinburgh until the early 21st century. The actors in the cast change once every 2 seasons since they get older. For example, in the 1st 2 seasons, the younger Queen is portrayed by Claire Foy. In the 3rd and the 4th seasons, the Queen is portrayed by none other than Olivia Colman. Interestingly, the actress that will be playing the older Queen Elizabeth in the 5th and the 6th seasons of the show is none other than Imelda Staunton, who plays the character Maud Bagshaw in the Downton Abbey feature film.
The Crown currently has an 8.7 average score on IMDB and a score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The new season will drop on Netflix in November 2022. This show is a perfect example of a period drama and will definitely be worth your time.

The English Game is a tv mini-series consisting only of 6 episodes. The show is about the invention of modern football as we know it today. The series shows that although the game was 1st played frequently by the nobles, that was changed forever when a person from the working class intervened.

3. The Cook of Castamar
The Cook of Castamar (2021)
The Cook of Castamar is also a period drama but it has an entirely different setting and subject. The story is set in Madrid, in the early 18th century and it follows a female cook who is agoraphobic and a nobleman who is widowed. This series would be another opportunity for those who would like to see more about the class relations between the nobles and the lower classes. In this case, you would also have the chance to witness a love story that trespasses class boundaries.
The show only has 1 season that came out last year. There is no official announcement about whether there is going to be a 2nd season or not.

Alias Grace (2017)
A tv mini-series based on an award-winning novel by Margaret Atwood. The story is set in 19th-century Canada where a woman who is convicted of murder is being assessed by a psychiatrist who has to decide whether she should be pardoned (because of insanity). An excellent period drama and a heartbreaking story, Alias Grace is also another show that portrays the historical details of the era realistically and convincingly. Frontier (2016-2018)
