Fans have been begging Netflix to make their favorite show continue as Designated Survivor Season 4 was canceled by the platform in July 2019. It seems that although it has been almost 3 years, fans have not given up and are still hoping for the day when the good news is going to arrive.
Designated Survivor is based on a real concept of the same name: In the U.S., in events like State of the Union or presidential inaugurations, a person from congress is put in an undisclosed secure location to make sure that if something were to happen to everyone in the presidential succession, that chosen person would be the next president. That person is called a designated survivor, or a designated successor.
In the series, Thomas Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is named a designated survivor before an explosion kills everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of succession. Kirkman suddenly finds himself as the president of the United States and we watch him being faced with many struggles as he both tries to adapt to his new job and find the perpetrators of the explosion.
Designated Survivor Season 4
Though it’s been more than 2 years since the series’ cancellation, people are still expecting a new season to be announced by Netflix. However, there is no such news. After announcing that there will be no Designated Survivor Season 4, Netflix has not released any other statement. Most fans could not figure out why Netflix was so insistent on the cancelation since the show’s ratings were pretty good.
The main cast member of the series, Kiefer Sutherland, commented in an interview about the show’s cancelation and said it had nothing to do with the ratings. The actor said that Netflix had a contract with the actors of the show for only a year, so when Season 3 ended, the actors went on to play other characters in other shows which made it quite complicated to bring together everyone. Netflix hasn’t commented on this but seeing that even after 2,5 years the show is still being talked about by fans, we have hopes that it will get revived.
How did Designated Survivor Season 3 end?
At the end of the 3rd season, we witnessed Tom Kirkman getting re-elected as the president of the United States. However, we also saw him questioning his morals because he decided not to speak out about Moss’ non-involvement in terrorism so as not to lose the race. Despite knowing that Moss was innocent, Kirkman did nothing and that’s why he was re-thinking about his moral decisions with his therapist in the season finale.

Aaron Shore Designated Survivor

For some time, he also worked as Kirkman’s National Security Advisor. In Season 3, he was selected as the vice president alongside Kirkman as the president.
