Netflix’s Capitani, created by Thierry Faber, is a Luxembourg crime series and there are actually similar shows like Capitani on various streaming websites. The show begins when the body of a 15-year-old girl called Jenny Engel is discovered in the forest near a village, and Inspector Luc Capitani comes to the town of Manscheid from southern Luxembourg to investigate the case: he is assisted by a local police officer named Elsa Ley, and the examining pair dives more into the facts behind the murder.
Later they learn that there may be more to the story than they first thought as the inhabitants of Manscheid may know more than they say, and the entire situation leads the Inspector to unravel the system that has been deceiving the peasants for a long time. 1. The Forest
The Forest has a very personal, very French narrative as the show covers teenage females attempting to make money through prostitution, making it one of the shows like Capitani. Eve was raised for two years by a forest hobo after being abandoned, and she has a particular connection with the forest as a supernatural white wolf brings her to crucial spots in the forest, and viewers definitely felt Eve’s harsh orphan seclusion, who eventually learns about her mother. It’s also refreshingly devoid of “woke” narratives shoved down your neck.
There is also a “spiral” sign that emerges in the show and it is a very old symbol that can be seen in sculptures in Zion, Utah, as well as Mt Bego and is supposed to symbolize fertility. This is a highly realistic show in terms of the legislation, the police, and how they operate and has a well-paced narrative with intriguing plot twists, yet unlike similar series made in the United States. This is European television at its finest, and we recommend watching The Forest if you are on the look for shows like Capitani.
2. The Valhalla Murders
The depiction of the cold and brutal Icelandic landscape was an ideal trigger for the Valhalla Murders’ cold-blooded character, and we think the series has it all figured out, from the cinematography to the soundtrack. Though the series did not have a very complex plot, the story delivery was excellent just like what you would expect from one of the shows like Capitani.
Most detective programs employ the formula of the investigator’s personal troubles combined with the continuing investigation, but in this instance, Arnar’s mystery history had just enough light shone on it to keep you hooked on. Watching it in its original Icelandic audio with English subtitles gives it a whole different vibe, and we are highly anticipating seeing the Valhalla Murders Season 2 soon.
3. Black Spot
Netflix quietly smuggled the 1st season of French drama Black Spot onto its massive content buffet, and it saw an increase in viewing, but it’s simple to understand why: its primary mystery is a binge-worthy detective narrative with otherworldly undertones and a wicked sense of humor.
In Black Spot, you will be welcomed to Villefranche, where people drink and die, and then drink again, the homicide rate is six times higher than the national average. It’s a no-land man’s where cell phones don’t work, presenting us with a very interesting plot. For that reason, it had to be on our list of shows like Capitani.
4. The Sinner
The Sinner is another fantastic criminal series, each season is unconnected, yet viewers binge-watched them all. Cora began off slowly, but by the end of episode one, viewers were captivated. Although many were not great fans of Jessica Biel, her portrayal of Cora is excellent and deserves a mention. It’s heartbreaking to see a dedicated wife and mother shift from being a functioning member of society to a guilty 2nd-degree murder suspect in the blink of an eye due to childhood trauma, making it one of the shows like Capitani.
5. Young Wallander
Young Wallander is an excellent Swedish series dealing with tough issues that many countries face nowadays and has a fantastic script based on a well-known novel. The role of Wallander, played by excellent actor Adam Palsson, demonstrates that brilliant performers can be found outside Hollywood. Palsson exudes naturalness and professionalism, and the other characters are equally excellent in Young Wallander, making it one of the shows like Capitani for its excellent cast.
Viewers are excited about the 2nd season of Young Wallander as they claim they had enough of other US shows and are now ready to watch some international drama to keep them on the edge of their seats. Anyone who is in search of shows like Capitani should check Young Wallander out.
