After a 3-year-long wait, Russian Doll is finally back for season 2! The first season of the hit show aired in February 2019, on Netflix. The show was one of Netflix’s most successful and critically acclaimed shows, which has earned an enormous fan base since its first release. With its interesting and unique storyline, the show made us want to see more of that world.

Russian Doll Season 2: When Will It Air?

When the show was renewed for a second season in June 2019, no official information was given about the Russian Doll season 2 release date. The show’s new season will also be streamed on Netflix, just like the first one and Netflix still has not announced anything about the release day of season 2. However, some sources report that the new season will come out this spring. So, we will be able to stream it anytime between March and June.
Netflix is not known for surprise drops so it will probably make an announcement in a few weeks to let us know about the exact release date. Let’s hope the rumors are true and that we will have the second season soon. Until then, we strongly suggest to re-watch season 1.

Unfortunately, the trailer for the new season did not drop yet but we have a few photos released by Netflix that give some clues about the story and the characters of Season 2. For instance, in this photo, we can see that the character Maxine (played by Greta Lee), Nadia’s stylish and blunt friend is coming back for Season 2.

We know for sure that the series’ lead characters Naida (played by Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (played by Charlie Barnett) will be in season 2. As we already said, Nadia’s friend Maxine too will be coming for Season 2. We also know that Oatmeal the cat will also be returning for the new season. However, the show will also have some new actors joining the new season. For example, Annie Murphy, best known for her role Alexis Rose in Schitt’s Creek, will appear in season 2. Other actors that will be seen in season 2 are Sharlto Copley, known for his role in District 9, and Carolynne Michelle Smith, who played a minor role in House of Cards.

What is Russian Doll about?
As both a comedy and a drama, Russian Doll’s protagonist is a game developer named Nadia, who in a party hosted by her friend, repeatedly dies and comes back to relive the same moment. Stuck in this time loop, Nadia starts to search for answers and finds Alan Zaveri experiencing the same situation. The couple tries to find answers to their problem and Alan thinks they are being punished for being bad people. However, Nadia and Alan actually figure out how their lives are connected and come up with a theory that the two are reliving their death again and again because they failed to prevent each other’s first deaths. So, the story continues…

How many episodes are there in Russian Doll?
The first season only had 8 episodes and it seems like the second season is going to follow the previous one. The IMDB page of the show has 8 episodes listed under season 2, so we are guessing it is true.
