On Sunday, we all get what we have been expecting for six months: Heartland’s Season 15 premiere. The episode was in true Heartland fashion, as it was filled with drama and dialogue. Naturally, we had many revelations and found answers to some of our questions that have been waiting for a response since Season 14 ended.
One of the biggest questions in this respect was about Lou’s relationship status. To our surprise, in the season premiere, we learned that Lou is actually single, which is something quite new for her since she hasn’t been alone for the longest time. Interestingly, Lou was seeming even more surprised than us as she was questioning whether she can handle this situation or not. How did Lou end up in this situation though?
Heartland Lou Fleming and her turbulent love life
First and foremost, we need to take a look at Lou’s past romantic interests in order to have a true understanding of her current situation. 15 long years ago, when Heartland just started, Lou was the elder Fleming sibling who was living in New York. After their mother’s death, she returned to Heartland ranch and started a live life. However, she still had a boyfriend named Carl back in New York.
The two seem to be happily in love as Carl soon proposes to Lou. Lou accepts the proposal with excitement. And yet, her excitement does not last for long since she later finds out that the reason why Carl proposed is the fact that he was trying to make out in his job. Highly disappointed with the news, Lou broke things off and never looked back once again.
Lou Fleming and Scott Cardinal
Then, she started to date Scott, who was the veterinarian of the Heartland ranch. For many fans, the relationship between Lou and Scott is still highly valued as their chemistry was one of a kind. Especially as far as Scott is concerned, there was no doubt that he was in love with Lou and was willing to accept her as she is at any cost.
Considering the fact that they had a crush on each other since they were teenagers, we are not surprised to see there was such a spark between the two. Well, Lou even gave up on the career opportunities in New York for him.
Unfortunately, their relationship did not last for long. Despite caring for each other highly, the two were both very busy and could not spend much time together, which led to their inevitable break up. Even though Scott later admitted to Ty that he is sorry to let Lou go, the couple never came back together.
Lou Fleming and Peter Morris
Instead, Lisa set Lou up with Peter. Even though he was living away and was highly occupied with his job, Lou got in love with Peter and the couple somehow managed to sort things out. Eventually, they got married and had a lovely daughter, Katie. They also adopted Georgie.
Unfortunately, once again, the relationship did not last for long as Peter’s long working hours – and even days – were creating great obstacles. They couldn’t spend enough time together neither as a family nor as a couple. Thus, they got divorced even though they kept in touch since they share two children together.
Lou Fleming and Mitch Cutty
Later, Lou met with Mitch online. The two had a date which wasn’t a total success at first since Mitch was a bit too willing to move things forward while Lou wasn’t ready yet. Then, somehow, Mitch started to work as a stablehand at Heartland ranch, which brought them closer. The endless flirtations paved the way for a relationship and an engagement. The couple had a very strong bond for years. However, in Season 14, things got changed.
First, Peter and Mitch had a small debate over who was more helpful and supportive towards Lou in her race for the mayorship. Then, Peter let Lou know that he still has feelings for her, which triggered Lou’s feelings as well.
Eventually, Lou told Mitch that they should have a break, which put an end to the relationship for good.
For the past six months, we, as the fans, assumed that Lou and Peter have already got together and enjoyed their new relationship. Instead, it turned out that despite being in touch constantly, Peter never mentioned his feelings again to Lou while Lou hesitated to take the first step. Meanwhile, Mitch sold his herd and decided to leave for good without letting Lou know.
These two incidents made a shocking impact on Lou, who is not used to being left alone. Still, after coming to the realization that she is a single woman for once, Lou said “I’ll have to get used to it.”
It is never easy to leave a long-lasting relationship behind without any other alternative ahead. Thus, Lou’s reaction to the situation was highly understandable. Probably, inside, she assumed that as long as Mitch was present, they still have a chance to be together once again. Thus, when she heard the news, she finally understood that things were truly over and she has to move on too.
We believe Season 15 has exciting surprises for Lou as she will be rocking the single life for a while. Still, we believe, at some point, Peter will be vocal about his feelings and they will give yet another shot to their relationship. Because, to be honest, it does not make sense for two people with feeling for each other to be this silent on it.
What do you think of Lou and her relationships? Who do you think is the true match for Lou? Do you think she will manage to be single? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
