The horror series Archive 81 premiered on Netflix almost 2 months ago, on January 14. The show went on to be a huge success for Netflix as it was streamed 22.2 million hours in its first week becoming the 7th most-watched show on Netflix.
Archive 81 Season 1 spoilers follow:
At the season finale, we saw Melody (Dina Shihabi) finally saving Jess (Ariana Neal) and Dan (Mamoudou Athie) saving Melody from the demonic mirror world. However, Dan was trapped there while saving Melody; so, he is stuck in 1994, in New York right after the Visser’s destruction. The ending of the season left so many thoughts and questions to be answered. Netflix has not released a statement saying that the show was renewed for another season, but we believe with its streaming success and a season finale that left room for several plots and storylines, a new season of Archive 81 will come eventually.
While we wait for the official announcement from Netflix about Archive 81 Season 2, let us dive into the details of the 1st season and talk about the possibility of another season!
Archive 81 Ending Explained
In the final moments of Season 1, we found out that Bobbi (Jacqueline Antaramian), who has been acting like a groundskeeper was actually Melody’s mom. She turns out to be a Baldung witch and agrees to enact a ritual to go to the Otherworld. With this ritual, Dan is able to travel to the Otherworld and he finds Melody. However, when he tries to get her back, Samuel (Evan Jonigkeit) interferes and snatches her. This results in a situation in which Melody is back in our dimension, seeing her mother, and Dan actually wakes up in a hospital in the 90s, apparently traveling back in time.
The season ended after this scene which really confused the audience who are wondering how did Dan travel back in time and how was that possible. Hopefully, the new season (if there is one) will answer these questions.

Archive 81 Episodes
Archive 81 has a total of 8 episodes and each episode lasts almost 1 hour. Even though the ambiguity over the fate of Archive 81 persists, we do believe the 2nd season of the show to have the same number of episodes as the 1st season. All of the episodes of the 1st season of the show are available on Netflix.
What is Archive 81 About?
As we already mentioned above, the series starts with Dan, who is a conservator, getting hired by a rich man called Virgil in order to restore some tapes that were damaged in a fire. In the tapes, we see Melody who is a Ph.D. candidate, doing research for her dissertation on a building called the Visser in New York. While Melody interviews people from the building, she gets to know a young child named Jess who gets lost in the building at one point. Things get stranger when Melody looks for Jess and suddenly Dan sees someone he knows in the tape, his father, who comes to calm Melody down.
Will there be Archive 81 Season 2?
Unfortunately, we do not know if there is going to be a new season of Archive 81, as Netflix has not announced it yet. However, it has only been 2 months since the show’s episodes aired on the platform so it would be wise to give some time to Netflix. We believe, the show has been successful with its 1st season and that is why it is most likely that there will be Archive 81 Season 2.
