Since Ryan Reynolds’ last hit The Adam Project was released on Netflix a few days ago, people have started, rightly, to binge-watch Ryan Reynolds movies. The 45-year-old Canadian actor started his acting career with a Canadian teen soap opera called Hillside (1991-1993) which was distributed in the U.S. as Fifteen. His big break was getting the lead role on the sitcom Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place (1998-2001), after which he went on to play in comedies such as Waiting… (2005), The Proposal (2009), and in dramas such as Buried (2010), Woman in Gold (2015), and Life (2017).
He also starred in action films like Blade: Trinity (2004), Green Lantern (2011), 6 Underground (2019), Free Guy (2021), and Red Notice (2021). However, his biggest commercial success came with none other than Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), in which Reynolds played the titular character. Besides being known for his diverse filmography, he has been on the news multiple times for his relationship with Blake Lively, a successful film star. The couple has been married since 2012 and they have 3 daughters together.
Now, for those who wonder which of the Ryan Reynolds movies are the best ones, we have a list that will fulfill your need. Here are the 6 best Ryan Reynolds movies ranked.
1) Deadpool Franchise
Deadpool (2016) is considered by many critics to be the best Ryan Reynolds movie ever. The movie received a score of 85% at Rotten Tomatoes and went on to make 782 million dollars at the box office. Deadpool is an R-Rated movie about a mercenary who gets experimented on and becomes immortal. However, he is now forever ugly and wants to get revenge on the man who did this to him.
Deadpool is filled with action, adventure, and comedy with Reynolds trying to bring down the 4th wall. It is a genuinely funny movie with Ryan Reynolds playing the role of his life. We recommend you watch this movie before any other Ryan Reynolds movies.
The 1st movie was so good that it immediately got a sequel in 2018, which got a score of 84 on Rotten Tomatoes. Although the 2nd movie was received similar praise from the critics, it was not deemed as good as the 1st movie by fans.
2) Free Guy
Free Guy came out in 2021 and follows a bank teller (Ryan Reynolds) who discovered that he is an NCP (non-character player) at a video game called Free City. The movie continues with Reynolds’ character’s realization and his further effort to be the hero of the video game.
The 2-hour-long movie did well with critics and the box office and is now amongst the best Ryan Reynolds movies with its fun and clever concept.
3) The Adam Project – Ryan Reynolds New Netflix Movie 2022
The Adam Project is the latest of Ryan Reynolds movies released on Netflix on March 11, 2022. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the movie did well with the audience. In the film, Ryan Reynolds plays Adam, a time pilot from the year 2050 who has to travel back in time to search for his missing wife Laura (Zoe Saldana). The Adam Project includes a stellar cast from Jennifer Garner, who plays Adam’s mom, to Mark Ruffalo, who plays Adam’s dad.
Most movie critics loved the relationship between future Adam and young Adam (Walker Scobell); which was regarded as the highlight of the film. However, the movie lacks authenticity and comedy at moments where Reynolds’ character tries too hard to be funny. The Adam Project is not perfect but it is not bad either. It is definitely watchable with its incredible cast and the chemistry between the 2 Adams.
4) The Proposal
The Proposal is a warm romantic comedy that has Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds as the main characters. Bullock plays, Margaret Tate, an editor-in-chief of a New York publisher and Reynolds plays his assistant Andrew Paxton. When Margaret has to be deported back to Canada because of her visa issues, she decides to marry her shy assistant Andrew who agrees to the plan.
Although the movie is not the best rom-com and not even the best rom-com that Ryan Reynolds played in, it still has great moments that make you feel amazing. The chemistry between Reynolds and Bullock is outstanding, which makes the movie worth a watch.
5) The Hitman’s Bodyguard
Reynolds plays the world’s best bodyguard who has to protect a hitman (Samuel L. Jackson) who has to testify at the criminal court. Although the 2 have differences in their characteristics and motives, they must put them aside and find a way to work together.
Despite seeming promising because of its famous cast members like Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Salma Hayek, The Hitman’s Bodyguard is another disappointment for Ryan Reynolds fans. We would recommend this movie to be one of the last movies on your watchlist.
6) Red Notice
Despite its promising cast and premise, another Netflix movie Red Notice was a total disappointment for many. The plot of the movie had major inconsistencies, and not-that-good performances by both Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot, making it impossible for Ryan Reynolds to save the movie by himself.
The movie follows an Interpol agent played by Johnson who has to track an art thief, Nolan Booth (Reynolds), who manages to steal an egg that historically comes from the time of Cleopatra. However, Booth gets caught and another thief, The Bishop (Gal Gadot) steals the egg.
We believe this movie to be one of the worst movies of Ryan Reynolds because the movie succeeded at looking cheap despite having more than 200 million dollars of budget.
