Unlike many other programs that have completed their run, Queen Of The South still had plenty of juice left in its metaphorical orange. Especially considering its later distribution on global streaming website Netflix, where it quickly rose to the top of the most-watched list.
Queen of the South, based on the novel of the same name, follows Teresa Mendoza, a destitute lady who escapes to America when her lover, a member of a drug gang, is murdered. With the drug ring on her tail, Teresa establishes her own drug operation, becoming one of the richest women in the world despite the fact that she is constantly on the run. Alice Braga became a star as a result of the show, and Queen of the South became one of the few primetime network dramas featuring her as the protagonist.
We are sadly announcing that after a five-season emotional ride, the action-crime series Queen Of The South might have finally exited the TV industry. Yes, by the end of the frenetic series, which chronicles Teresa Mendoza’s journey as she establishes a large drug empire, we too felt typical sensations of sadness and loss. Teresa’s career on the show ended with Season 5 according to a statement made by The USA Network. We believe that there still might be a chance for the show to continue considering the reaction of the fans.
Queen of the South Season 6 Details
After five well though and appreciated seasons, USA Network terminated the action-crime series “Queen of the South,” confirming the show’s cancellation before the final season premiere in April 2021. The plot of the program didn’t appear to be coming to an end anytime soon, nor was Season 5 intended to be the series’ last season. Fans of the program were outraged when the cancellation was announced, especially as Queen of the South was regularly at the top of the Netflix hot series list when seasons aired on the streaming site after the tv broadcast.

The USA Network has never officially verified what we all already realize, but Season 4 of “Queen of the South” apparently suffered a significant dip in ratings of roughly 20%, despite the show remaining the channel’s most-watched drama. Season 5 saw an even larger dip, indicating the network’s apparent concern that interest in the series was dwindling. The show’s demise was undoubtedly influenced by ratings, but the shifting environment of the USA Network is the more likely cause. For that reason, we are sadly announcing that there will not be a Season 6 for this show.
Where Can I Watch Queen of the South Season 5 For Free?
Queen of the South garnered mixed to excellent reviews from reviewers, however, it never surpassed 1.4 million viewers during its existence. Despite this, the television series managed to stay on the air. I suppose you could argue that the TV program’s audience kept the show viable.

Queen of the South Final Episode
The closing seconds of the final episode reveal the strategy behind Teresa’s unexpected resurgence. Teresa and her team came up with a plan to mislead Devon and trick him before moving to Belize. It seemed inevitable that James would betray Teresa, that Teresa would be cremated, and that Pote would return to Culiacán.
Pote reassures Teresa that all loose ends have been tied, pointing out that Dumas and Chicho are unaware of the sophisticated scheme. Teresa glances into the distance to see her former, willing-to-risk-it-all self, nodding in satisfaction of the hidden, mess-free life she’s fashioned, as they finally sit down for a family supper without fear of ambush or revenge.
“That Teresa died, but she wasn’t slain by an adversary or a competitor,” she claims. “She was murdered by me, a Culiacán money-changer who beat all difficulties to survive. And, what do you know, if the choice was between prison or death, I chose life.”
Showrunners Benjamin Lobato and Dailyn Rodriguez discussed the series’ “wonderful” finale, teased Season 6 elements, and more.
Queen of the South Cast
Brazilian actress Alice Braga plays the major character, Teresa Mendoza. Braga had already been in numerous critically praised films, including the 2002’s City of God and 2005’s Lower City, before being cast in Queen of the South. Queen of the South is Braga’s first big U.S. television appearance, with her prior TV credits consisting only of non-English speaking roles.
Hemky Madera, a Dominican-American actor, plays Pote Galvez, a former Vargas Cartel commander who seems to have become one of Theresa’s most loyal supporters. Galvez began his career in Spanish-speaking TV appearances before transitioning to English-speaking roles in programs including New Girl, From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, and Agent X.
Bailey Chase joins the Season 4 roster as Eddie Brucks, a singer struggling to escape his terrible background. Chase was previously renowned for his appearances in Chicago P.D., Grimm, 24: Legacy, and the David Lynch version of Twin Peaks.
Ryan O’Nan plays King George, a Texas cannabis smuggler who helps Theresa develop her kingdom. O’Nan was most recognized for his appearances in Fargo and Ray Donovan prior to Queen of the South. In addition to his acting credentials, O’Nan is establishing a decent career behind the camera as a director, filmmaker, and writer; he has even worked as a story editor on Queen of the South.

Teresa has progressed from a money changer to a drug mule to the boss of her own cartel over the course of four episodes. However, the end is near since the network has canceled Queen of the South.
Teresa’s narrative is based on the Spanish novel La Reina del Sur by author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. But, long before Queen of the South, a Spanish drama based on the novel originally released, featuring Kate del Castillo as Teresa.
However, a few years later, the USA Network opted to film its own version of the novel, starring Braga, Peter Gadiot as James Valdez, Hemky Madera as Pote Galvez, and a variety of other cast members who appeared in one or more of the series. Fans have been anticipating the drama’s return since series four premiered on Netflix last year; however, it has now been confirmed that Queen of the South Season 5 will be the series’ final.
